As part of the 'Bharat Ki Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations, a series of events are being organized by the Government of India to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence.

Through this MyGov activity, we aim to revisit history and acknowledge our local heroes whose struggles during the Freedom Movement have not received prominence in the conventional storyline. Let's raise awareness about our freedom struggle & the unsung heroes associated with it. It’s time that the contributions of fighters like Veer Gundandhur, Velu Nachiyar, Bhikaji Cama, etc. see the light of the day.

This is your chance to tell the story that must be told and honour the freedom fighters who have played an important role in making our nation free.

Share the stories with all the details and celebrate Bharat Ki Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav with us.

ONKARNATH SHARMA On a quest to start a free medicine bank for the poor and the needy, Omkarnath Sharma, popularly known as "Medicine Baba", walks around the streets of Delhi, knocking on the doors of relatively well-to-do households to collect free medicines for the needy. Sharma began this mission in 2008, when a bridge collapsed in Delhi and he saw many injured people being turned away from hospitals because they didn't have the required medicines. People suffered because of inadequate medicines and he began his quest. He wakes up every morning and walks 5-7 kms procuring non-prescription medicines. He has now gained some regular contributors.

Tirot Sing, also known as U Tirot Sing Syiem born in the year 1802 and died in the year 1835, was one of the chiefs of the Khasi people in the early 19th century. He drew his lineage from the Syiemlieh clan. He was Syiem (chief) of Nongkhlaw, part of the Khasi Hills. His surname was Syiemlieh. He was a constitutional head sharing corporate authority with his Council, general representatives of the leading clans within his territory. Tirot Sing declared war and fought against British for attempts to take over control of the Khasi Hills. Quoted from Wikipedia. The freedom fighters from Meghalaya and North East; non of their contribution towards freedom struggle against the British is known to the rest of India. They don't find any mention in the History books. The Government of India should come out with Volumes of Books on Freedom Fighter who fought against the British. The Central Government with the Help of every state government should identify the freedom fighters from all states.
