As part of the 'Bharat Ki Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations, a series of events are being organized by the Government of India to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence.

Through this MyGov activity, we aim to revisit history and acknowledge our local heroes whose struggles during the Freedom Movement have not received prominence in the conventional storyline. Let's raise awareness about our freedom struggle & the unsung heroes associated with it. It’s time that the contributions of fighters like Veer Gundandhur, Velu Nachiyar, Bhikaji Cama, etc. see the light of the day.

This is your chance to tell the story that must be told and honour the freedom fighters who have played an important role in making our nation free.

Share the stories with all the details and celebrate Bharat Ki Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav with us.

1. Bhikaji Cama 2. 74 3. was born in Bombay 4. Mumbai 5. Maharastra People may have heard her name on roads and buildings, but very few know who she was and what she did for India. Cama was not only a part of India's independence movement but also an iconoclast who stood for gender equality during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She donated most of her personal belongings to an orphanage for girls. She also unfurled the Indian flag at the International Socialist Conference at Stuttgart in Germany, in 1907.

There are many unsung heroes across our country. Most of them are forgotten as some selfish politicians have successfully hidden their stories. They didn't get any support or recognition. Veerapandiya Katta Bomman Dheeran Chinnamalai Puli Thevar Rettaimalai Srinivasan R. Kamarajar P.S. Siva Swami Iyer S. Sathyamurthy Many freedom fighters families didn't get their pension and still some old freedom fighters are suffering without any support. Government should identify them atleast now and take care of them as our duty. All State Government should collect the data about those aged freedom fighters and honour them and do the needful to get their pension amount if they receive them. All important Government schemes should be named with the popular freedom fighters who really sacrificed their life due to the torture by the Britishers. All British Street names should be renamed. Special coins with freedom fighters images should be released during every year Independence Day. Jai Hind

A special commemorative coins should be released with the images of Tiruppur Kodi Kaatha Kumaran who was badly beaten by the Britishers. He was holding the national flag tightly in his hand even when he fell down and protected the national flag falling on the ground. Likewise Veeravaanchi Nathan who fought for our freedom and shot the British Collector of Tirunelveli Ashe at Maniyachi Railway Junction and shot himself and sacrificed his life. Tyagi Subramanya Siva who built temple for Bharath Matha at Papparapatti in Dharmapuri District in Tamilnadu. This temple should be under the control of Central Government. Subramanya Siva who fought for the freedom. He had close relationship with Poet Subramanya Bharathi and V.O.Chidambaram Pillai. Likewise V.O Chidambaram Pillai Kappalottiya Tamizhan who was brutally tortured by the Britishers. Marudu Brothers of Siva Gangai District fought against East India Company.
