With the GST coming into effect from 1st July, 2017, the biggest indirect tax reform of independent India, is going to transform the way indirect tax is administered in this country, impacting not just businesses but also the common man. GST is a tax on consumption of goods and services, which is levied at all stages right from manufacturing up to final consumption, with credit of taxes paid at previous stages available as setoff. It is going to remove the tax-on-tax effect through separate Central and State tax laws. In a nutshell, under GST, only value addition will be taxed , hence, reducing the burden of tax to be borne by the final consumer.

The most fundamental change in GST besides the consolidation of multiple taxes, is the use of a robust shared IT infrastructure in its operations. All the forms related to registrations, filing returns and other related activities can now be done through the GSTN Portal.

GST will help build an economically stronger India, with 'One Nation, One Tax, One Market.'

Under GST, tobacco and tobacco products are being subject to 28% tax pluscompensation cess ranging from 11% to 290%. But as per decision of the GST council, notification No.36/2017-Customs has been issued superseding Notification No.106/58 exempting articles imported for the personal use of the Hon. Vice President from Customs duty and IGST including food, drink and tobacco for consumption by members of the VP's household or by his official/ unofficial guests. Is such exemption appropriate?

Query 2. We have to make payment to Contractor for their tender work for Development works in Panchayats. What % of GST to be deducted from their bills or no GST to be deducted.

The goods that we purchase bear MRP and many people sell them below this price. Thus MRP loses its value. Can we have MSP (Maximum Selling Price) on the goods so that what is printed is only charged for retail selling.

One nation One tax is a good idea. However, the sad part is that prices of most commodities have gone up and the common man is feeling the pinch. Can you now work on the idea of One nation One price???? The tax should be similar and why not the prices? Why can't Bournvita or petrol, or rice, sugar etc have same price all over the country?

Dear Sir,

The whole purpose of charging GST is getting defeated. The Corporate Traveller, which is the biggest chunk and Travel Industry claim back the GST as a CenVAT Credit .

It is shown as K3 tax in the Tickets and is approximately 5%.

The Corporate should ideally pay this tax and this should be used for the development of nation.

Please seriously look into. It is a loss of revenue to the exchequer

Anil Jani

I appreciate GST, there should one tax for all so that same item or good will not have different prices at different locations. The facilitation centre's should get opened to assist the common business man as there are finding difficulty while categorizing their items or goods under GST. Also i would like to drawn attention towards the fee and consultancy is being charged by the CA or accountants. Govt should define the fee for GST filling and other support services.

I refer to the following clarfication by the revenue secretary - http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/economy/policy/gst-rs-20-lakh-registration-exemption-not-for-inter-state-traders/articleshow/59476364.cms

It says that the 20 lakh exemption limit is for intra-state activity only and not for inter-state trade.

This clarification affects small providers of e-services very badly. It also seems illogical. I request the Government to extend the 20 lakh limit to inter-state trade also.

Reg GST:As earlier the value/price print on the pack (any item) which is including all taxes and without issuing a proper bill or cash memo the seller charges full value which is printed on the pack.Hence, maximum seller taking taxes from the consumer but not paying to the Government, looking to the above we suggest that“The Selling price print on all sellure item should clearly mention that the value without any taxes and tax to be paid as per the cash memo or bill.”
Thanking you.
