With the GST coming into effect from 1st July, 2017, the biggest indirect tax reform of independent India, is going to transform the way indirect tax is administered in this country, impacting not just businesses but also the common man. GST is a tax on consumption of goods and services, which is levied at all stages right from manufacturing up to final consumption, with credit of taxes paid at previous stages available as setoff. It is going to remove the tax-on-tax effect through separate Central and State tax laws. In a nutshell, under GST, only value addition will be taxed , hence, reducing the burden of tax to be borne by the final consumer.

The most fundamental change in GST besides the consolidation of multiple taxes, is the use of a robust shared IT infrastructure in its operations. All the forms related to registrations, filing returns and other related activities can now be done through the GSTN Portal.

GST will help build an economically stronger India, with 'One Nation, One Tax, One Market.'

Sir, i am well wisher of your govt. But the hotels, restaurants and bakeries in tamil Nadu have taken this GST as an opportunity for price hike and raised price to double the amount and also added GST to the hiked amount. Now instead of price reduction due to GST there is price rise. Here what is the control mechanism the government having to verify the price which is prior to GST & now. please take control mechanism, otherwise people will be regret about GST.

Purchased cement, bill shows rate Rs 257per bag, CGST charged 9% and SGST charged 9%. My question is that is this correct? It means complete 18% GST on cement to be charged from consumer, how is he benefited? Before GST taxes on cement were 28.5% and as GST is 28%,as a layman cement should be cheaper by .5% where as cement purchased on 30 June was priced Rs 325/Bag and after GST priced at Rs 330/Bag on 10 Jul. Pl clarify.

I am a government employee and I pay tax for my salary regularly. If I purchase any other item or if I go to hotel I have to pay GST for my purchase. Already I have paid tax for my salary. Then why should I pay GST for my purchase? It affects government servants.

Respected sir
In gst govt has forget that goods to retailers supplied not by company directly. It goes through cfa and super stickiest and stickiest.
The margin of cfa. And super stickiest is 2 to 4% including transport charges .
If we pay 28% gst on our gross margin. It means for all our expenses including transport we have to pay 28% extra. It comes to double tax of transportation.
Please give refund on transport charges atleast.
