With the GST coming into effect from 1st July, 2017, the biggest indirect tax reform of independent India, is going to transform the way indirect tax is administered in this country, impacting not just businesses but also the common man. GST is a tax on consumption of goods and services, which is levied at all stages right from manufacturing up to final consumption, with credit of taxes paid at previous stages available as setoff. It is going to remove the tax-on-tax effect through separate Central and State tax laws. In a nutshell, under GST, only value addition will be taxed , hence, reducing the burden of tax to be borne by the final consumer.

The most fundamental change in GST besides the consolidation of multiple taxes, is the use of a robust shared IT infrastructure in its operations. All the forms related to registrations, filing returns and other related activities can now be done through the GSTN Portal.

GST will help build an economically stronger India, with 'One Nation, One Tax, One Market.'

We are a software development and services company based out of Bangalore. We develop software for hospitals and our customer base is spread across India. We have many hospitals outside of Karnataka under our AMC. We are extremely confused whether going forward we have to raise a IGST invoice, or we have to get a GSTIN registered in every state where we do business. So far no one has been able to answer our questions.

For exporter of software where IEC cert is available - Please advise if it is necessary to add CGST / IGST or any other tax to the invoices? Until June 2017, I did not add any tax to the invoices as purchasers were from outside India paying in USD to the firm's bank account.

No clarity on tax levied on raw, processed, manufactured, marketed, smoke and non-smoke tobacco products. Despite WHO recommending signatories to levy maximum taxes to deter smokers for making smoking uneconomical, tobacco products are being handled with kid gloves. Need GST clarity. Government of India is adopting dual policies with regard to tobacco control and does not appear to be serious in complying with its parliament ratified protocol agreement WHO/FCTC.

Ever since GST has come into force many business houses and traders are trying to take undue advantage out of it.They are not deducting ED, Entry tax, CST from earlier rates while calculating base rates to levy GST. This way cost of end product is getting high and a panic is being created against this Noble platform of one country one tax. Forget about small traders who have the excuse of having old stock, large companies like ASIAN PAINTS also trying to make such practice.

We are manufacturers of Electronic Weighing an Automation from TN. Earlier for outstation we pay 12.5% ED and 2% CST against form C which is 14.5%. Now GST is 28% for weighing related . My customers from Rice, Flour mills are exempted from Sales Tax and hence they could not avail Input tax for the 28%. For those companies who have exemption, they find their prices had increased . Weighing instrument is a necessity not a luxury. Please reconsider

Thee maximum manipulation is in entertainment tax by showing less occupation and affixing fake tax tickets on cinema tickets. This can be eliminated by formula adopted by NTR in Andhra Pradesh as CM.He fixed a lumsump tax on cinema hall based on number of seats irrespective of occupation, this also eliminated corruption in tax department. Similar should be done in GST regime to avoid tax manipulations.
