Khadi is not merely a piece of cloth. It is a philosophy. A way of life. A symbol of empowerment, self-dependence, pride of history, Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of the relevance of roots.

As Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi on his radio program “Mann ki Baat” on 3rd October, 2014 said that “we must promote the use of Khadi and we should buy at least one Khadi article. If you buy Khadi, you light the lamp of prosperity in the house of the poor”.This appealled to an increase in Khadi sales by 125% at the various outlets in India. This reflects a latent demand for Khadi, which needs to tapped which in turn will create rural employment. Potential consumers of Khadi could be schools, hospitals, Railways, PSUs, Army, Para-military forces, Fashion houses etc.

USP of the Khadi product is its eco-friendly, almost carbon neutral nature, which leaves near zero water footprints. It is socio-economically sustainable textile product. It’s an all-weather and allergy free fabric. Hence, Khadi use is a step towards ‘Zero Effect’ and ‘Zero Poverty’ India.

Currently, people employed in Khadi sector are earning Rs.1200 to Rs.1800 per month. MGIRI Wardha has developed a Solar Charkha which can increase the earnings to four times the existing one, cutting the drudgery along.Taking the initiative forward, MoMSME is going to start a pilot project in the KHANWA village, Nawada district of Bihar, where 100 Solar Charkhas would be distributed to the rural women for spinning of yarn. Under buyback arrangement with ‘Gram Nirmaan Mandal, Khadi Sansthan, GAYA, these yarns would be weaved into Khadi products. This scheme islikely to provide Rs.5000 to 8000 per month to the women artisans. This model of wage earnings to the rural women has to be scaled up so as to achieve the visionary goal of providing job opportunities to crores of rural women in coming years.

This, in turn is expected to lay a platform for another visionary goal of increasing the market share of Khadi in the textile sector from present 0.4% to 5% in next Five years in first phase.

In pursuance of the above twin visionary goals, you are requested to give your valuable inputs on

1. How to enhance the production and sale of Khadi?
2. How to create a niche for Khadi products particularly among youths and about 2.5 crore NRIs living abroad?
3. How to foster awareness about Khadi products?

The last date for submission of your comments is 31st March, 2015.

Improving rural economy the urban way is of no use.People will suffer the way they are in west.God has provided all facilities to live happily through nature.Seeds give oil for light, cooking, firewood can be used for cooking, agriculture for food, cotton for clothes, everything can be arranged without money and employment.Urging PM to adopt this economy and encourage youngsters to take this up.By not allowing us to go to agriculture, this opportunity is deprived(we aren't free to choose our job also)

at the regional level Khadi workers should form community which should have a tie up with any Indian brand(Famous brand) so the khadi cloths will be sold in that brands name. we need a revolution to reform khadi to its past status and this can only be done by modernizing the khadi and it can only be done by providing it a Brand name because the youth is totally addicted to the Brand.

We can make the kadhi with superior quality and new innovative aditives process like antibacterial khadi , water repellent khadi.also natural dyes also improve the quiality of khadi.pleaee don't depend only on the research center which just eating gov. Funding and not giving any product output which is useful for the farmer and local people's. we need to add new quality by using new technologies like nanotech and all then khadi can survive very strongly and its really possible in villages.

As a matter of fact, we owe it ourselves that we must take Khadi as our own, as SOMETHING WE MUST OWN. In these times when textiles have grown out of all proportions with advent and useage of state-of-art-machinery, it high time all pulls be drawn to put Khadi in the reckoning again. SURELY, IT HAS UPPER HAND OVER OTHER TEXTILES TO THE EXTENT THAT, IN EVERY CONCEIVABLE WAY, IT IS AN ALL WEATHER STUFF. WE NEED TO AWAKE TO THE FACT THAT IT IS KHADI THAT REALLY PROTECTS OUR SKIN FROM WEATHER.

Their will organise a special campaign day, in which all M.P wear khadi product. Also advertise in his/her area to wear and influenced useness of khadi product. A special loan will given to influenced this business. If Modi ji wear this khadi product in several days of meeting with other country and going outside of India then it also helpful to advertise.

The most important reasons why Khadi products are not able to stand against brand competition are 1) Branding has not been up to the mark 2) Khadi products have not yet reached the apparel stores that meet the most of the demand Industrialize Khadi production. Create a brand which sells khadi but with a different name. Actually Milton Friedman suggested this years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJWLt1TmAy4 We must consider his advice at least now.
