Innovative ideas on circular economy in E-waste

Today, electronic waste poses a significant challenge for society. With the introduction of innovative features and up-gradation, people are changing their devices by discarding the old ones, thereby contributing to the generation of electronic waste significantly.

Replacing the linear systems with circular in electrical and electronic equipment intends to maximize value at each life-cycle stage by reusing, repairing, recovering remanufacturing, regenerating products and material.

Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) observes Swachhata Pakhwada 2022 from 1st February 2022 to 15th February 2022 promoting ‘E-waste se Raksha- Swachhata hi Suraksha’. Citizens are invited to share their innovative ideas on how circular economy practices can help in sustainable and efficient E-waste Management.

The best entries from the citizens will be identified by the Ministry and will be featured on the MyGov page.

The last date to receive suggestions is 15th February 2022.

Obsolescence is a big issue with Electronic products. Mobile phones have become very costly. And within two to three years the model is declared outdated. Company launches costlier model with more features. People are virtually forced to buy new mobile phone after 2 to 3 years as the battery of old mobile phone is not able to retain charge and phone get discharged in shorter duration. Genuine battery is not available in market and cost of battery at authorised service centres is almost comparable to the cost of new mobile phones. It is very difficult for a common man to buy a new mobile phone even when he does not require a new phone and he can not afford to buy a new phone financially. He is left with no option but to compromise with safety and buy mobile battery from local vendor. Government shall raise this matter with mobile manufacturing companies to ensure availability of genuine spare batteries at reasonable cost to ensure people need not buy spurious batteries.

The recovery of energy from waste also plays an important role. Waste disposal should be phased out and, where it is unavoidable, it must be adequately controlled to be safe for human health and the environment.

It is necessary to create awareness programs in School, college. NGOs ' participation also be useful. Let's try to electronic retailers, dealers, shop etc. to be aware about the program, even they know reuses of the same. Every District Headquarters should have a cell for recycling about e-waste,Why they are not capable to suggest DIC and deals it to make recycle ?Some Industrial equipments and Medels (Silver,Gold,Bronze models of Prizes) could be made from E-dust.Just need processing, dealing, commercial awareness and contact information needed All thave to bound business chains and dealing procedures

What to do when obsolete model Electrical and Electronic Equipments start giving frequent trouble. Get it repaired or replaced? This situation is faced by all of us. We have to consider following points: 1 Genuine spares of obsolete gadgets are not available in market. Even manufacturers do not provide spare support. Service centers may arrange some spares by cannibalising similar products lying unrepairable with them. 2 Spurious duplicate spares available in market can create safety hazards. There are instances of fire with substandard mobile batteries and chargers. Faulty electrical equipment can cause incidents of shock or short circuit. 3 Old Electrical and Electronic Equipments were less energy efficient. They consume more power and using them may not be cost effective. 4 Old Electrical and Electronic items were quite bulky and heavy. It is difficult to find suitable place for them in today's flats. Old desert coolers and Television sets are examples of such equipments.
