Smart Kochi – Suggestions on Area Development Plan

Start Date :
Sep 24, 2015
Last Date :
Oct 10, 2015
17:00 PM IST (GMT +5.30 Hrs)
The Kochi Municipal Corporation is pleased to inform you that our City has been selected through a competitive process for SMART City Mission initiative of Government of India. In ...
The water people receive at home should be drinkable without needing any extra purification process. I would't call a city "smart" if even as basic need as pure water is not served to its citizen.
I am really glad this city is selected to become a smart city. :) I am really excited to see the changes. #SmartCity #MyGov
1)Urban connectivity is poor. Need to drastically increase ac low floors & buses to major areas, especially to the Infopark. And at all timings, not just morns and eves.
2)Pedestrians walkways and signals, two wheeler & bicycle lanes.
3)Waste Management: The inefficient waste collection and illegal dumping must be tackled.
4)Clean public toilets & wastebins everywhere, especially Fort Kochi. Fine littering very strictly.
5)Parking: Proper spaces to tackle illegal parking.
6)Plant trees.
1.Dustbins everywhere! A waste disposal system, a very efficient one that people no more throw or burn garbage. One cannot expect to clean India of garbage if you give them no viable solution.
2. All overhead electrical lines should go underground. They serve an eye-sore.
3. Pedestrian paths to encourage walking.
4-lane spokes for ring road - kakkanad-Muvattupuzha, edappally-pukkattupady, Ernakulam-Thripunithura-Muvattupuzha, Thripunithura-Koothattukulam, Thripunithura-Vaikom-Thanneermukkom
Warehousing/logistics parks along ring roads and move warehousing out of the city to minimise truck traffic in the city.
Road Development - 4/6 lane Ring road project to de-congest city roads. Outer Ring Road - Cherthala-Thanneermukkom-kuravilangad-koothattukulam-Muvattupuzha-Perumbavoor-Angkamaly-parakkadavu-kuzhur-poyya-kodungalloor. Inner Ring Road - Paravur-Aluva-Pookkattupady-Thrippunithura-Kundannur.
Solar powered LED street lights and street lights in all streets.
Waste managed at source. Educate residents in sorting waste and recycle organic waste at source. Plastic and paper waste collection for re-cycling by Corporation. Plastic to be used as a mix for road repair.
Please start bus service from Vytila to Kakkanad via bypass-Putiya Road-Vennala-Palachuvad route. There are thousands of families residing in this stretch and they dont have any means of public transport and always have to rely on Auto or car. There are so many apartment projects coming up in this area. In a long run, starting public transportation along this route will develop this area and provide an alternative route to Kakkanad from CBD.
1. Better road .
2. Educate drivers to build a international traffic with discipline.(stop snake driving, left overtaking etc)
3. Build waste bin in citys, (i couldnt find a single waste bin in city, then how littering be stopped)
4. City must be disabled friendly .
5. Clean and preserve backwaters ,proper dredge is required
1. Kochi requires roads without any potholes or encroachments.
2. CCTV's should be installed in public buses and the reckless driving of private bus should be put to a halt.
3. Waste disposal and garbage collection system should be revamped.
4. City's green cover should be increased like planting more trees on footpaths, medians etc..
5. All the malls and business complexes in kochi should be made to convert themselves into green building.
6. All the govt. buildings should be modernised.
What Kochi requires essentially is cleaner public places and we'll maintained tourism spots. These can attract foreigners. Like subhash park got renovated key areas like marine drive, our beaches need to be made attractive. The corporation should take strict measures to cap disposal of wastes into public areas and water bodies. I would also suggest to establish a treatment plant too treat the water that passes beneath the rainbow bridge as it creates bad odour to the visitors.
