The expansion of banking and reach of financial services is considered to be vital for the long-term sustainable development of any country. From the standpoint of equity, it is essential that financial services are provided at an affordable cost to those who are presently excluded from the formal financial system. Mobile telephony could be the answer to the problems related to ‘last mile’ service delivery of financial services.

In order to identify and address the various issues for the use of USSD-based Mobile Financial Services, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released Consultation Paper on ‘Review of regulatory framework for the use of USSD for mobile financial services’ on 2nd August, 2016 for comments.

The objective of this Consultation Paper (CP) is to examine the need of mobile based financial services in the country from a public perspective, discuss the issues in its proliferation and to explore solutions for the same.

The Authority has extended the time for submission of comments upto 14th September, 2016 and counter comments by 28th September, 2016.

Bsnl service is very poor. Despite repeated lodging of complaint no action is being taken. customer are very frustrated. BsnL employee have breached the record of Laziness. I have lodged a complaint 10 days ago for my dead Landline still I am waiting for them the contact person does not receive the phone. If Government really wants to reform this sector, first goernment should kickout those persion who are dismentling the name of BSNL.

Hi,

My the means of this medium I would like to raise a major concern as a consumer, mostly all telecom companies are cheating the consumers in the name of 2G / 3G / 4G data speeds. There should be a strict regulation on this that defines speeds bands with respect to the band subscribed. In the name of 3G / 4G all telecom companies are charging a fortune of the rates but their speeds are pathetic and less tha 256 Kbs in certain cases & they claim of proving 3G / 4G speeds. All this must stop

1. Enormous high frequency electromagnetic wave [EM wave] pollution created by mobile phones, affected by biological lives, agricultural production gradually decreasing, so use of mobile phones must be restricted like advanced countries.
2. Children and school going students should avoid use of mobile phones, because they expend the valuable time unnecessarily and damaging their life with less brain memory power.
3. Before using mobile in financial purpose, cyber security must be guaranteed.

Mobile financial services is an innovative tool for expansion of financial services in India, but in remote areas/villages where the education level /exposture to even banking services is negligible, this service may not be provided due to maximum chances of cheating cases to be happening in those areas. Firstly, these areas shall be given experience of banking services and gradually with their exposure to such vast banking services these could be converted into mobile based services.

Various Regulations framed from 2009 to 2012 like the Telecom Consumers protection regulations, 2012 have undermined the potential of misuse of the mobile phone against the national security. Allotting mobile numbers on scratchy verification, deactivation on a/c of non-use, re-allotting the number etc. by Private Co.service providers without physically contacting the subscriber has put citizen to unnecessary risk and mobiles in wrong hands.Put the whole thing under strict control of the State.
