Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare
The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, is responsible for policy formulation and implementation relating to agriculture, horticulture, and farmer welfare, with a focus on raising agricultural productivity, ensuring food security, and improving farmers' income through various support schemes and reforms.
It works to strengthen the agriculture sector through targeted schemes and reforms covering crop production, irrigation support, farm credit, and market access, while promoting sustainable farming practices and farmer-centric welfare initiatives across the country.
The Ministry is organised into three major departments — the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (DA&FW), the Department of Agriculture Research and Education (DARE), and the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (DAHD&F). The DA&FW alone is organised into 27 Divisions, with five attached offices and twenty-two subordinate offices spread across the country for coordination with state-level agencies and implementation of Central Sector Schemes. Further, two Public Sector Undertakings, nine autonomous bodies, ten national-level cooperative organisations, and one authority function under the administrative control of the Department.
