Ministry of Power
The Ministry of Power is responsible for the development, regulation, and growth of India's power sector, overseeing electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and energy efficiency across the country. It formulates policies and plans to strengthen power infrastructure, promote the integration of renewable energy, and ensure reliable and affordable electricity supply for every citizen.
The Ministry drives key national schemes such as the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) for rural electrification, the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) for strengthening distribution infrastructure, and the National Electricity Plan, which charts the country's future energy mix and capacity needs.
It also oversees major Central Public Sector Undertakings, including NTPC Limited, Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID), NHPC Limited, REC Limited, and Power Finance Corporation (PFC), along with regulatory bodies like the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) — together driving India's transition towards a reliable, efficient, and sustainable power ecosystem.
