Ministry of Textiles
The Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, is responsible for policy formulation, planning, development, export promotion and trade regulation of the Textiles Industry, covering natural and man-made fibres used in textiles, clothing, and handicrafts.
It works to promote the exports of textiles, clothing, and handicrafts, ensure the availability of raw materials to the industry, and support the planned growth of various sectors — with special emphasis on handlooms due to their employment potential. The Ministry also envisions building state-of-the-art production capacities and achieving a leading global standing in the manufacture and export of textiles, including technical textiles, jute, silk, cotton and wool, while developing a vibrant handlooms and handicrafts sector.
The Ministry's work is organised across key functional areas, including Textile Policy & Coordination, the Man-made Fibre/Filament Yarn Industry, Cotton Textile Industry, Jute Industry, Silk and Silk Textile Industry, Wool & Woollen Industry, and the Decentralised Powerloom Sector, along with Export Promotion, Planning & Economic Analysis, Integrated Finance Matters, and Information Technology. It is supported by attached offices, statutory bodies, and public sector undertakings such as the Cotton Corporation of India, Jute Corporation of India, National Handloom Development Corporation, and National Textile Corporation, among others.
