The mascot features a typical Indian Truck which is symbolic to Indian highways. Trucks started from World War II military transport and now into vibrant cultural canvases and the backbone of the India’s economy. Indian highways are symbol of strength, durability and are designed to withstand changing climatic conditions which directly correlates with a truck and thus the design choice. It also symbolizes seamless connectivity to all over the country as trucks play an important role for trade and economy.The mascot is designed in Adobe Illustrator which enables it to scale in any size. The primary colors are inspired from India’s tricolor flag.The secondary colors chosen are symbolic to Indian trucks and India. The symbols and colorful flourishes reflect Indian design which are recognizable nationally and globally. The colors attract attention of all demographic audience and make it stand out. The mascot also involves symbols and writings directly related to NHAI. The number plate has NHAI on it. The truck also has the line “Pragati Ka Highway” focusing on the NHAI’s mission towards continuous development of Indian Highways. Inspired by the turtle’s steady and patient nature, AJAY symbolizes the idea that slow and steady progress ensures a safe journey and a secure return home. His strong shell represents the structure and support provided by NHAI, while his extended arms and road-inspired design reflect building connections and creating pathways where the impossible becomes possible. Concept Note – Gativ
Gativ, inspired by “Gati” meaning speed and movement, represents NHAI’s vision of safe, smart and progressive highways. The mascot combines a road-inspired helmet, compass face, tricolour cape and futuristic elements to symbolise direction, safety, innovation and national pride. Bridges and highways in the design reflect connectivity, while the dynamic pose conveys speed and forward progress.

This is Mintu. A leafcutter ant mascot for NHAI. I chose a leafcutter ant as the main inspiration for the mascot as they are known for building complex underground routes and pathways similar to the work of NHAI of connecting India with sustainable infrastructural development.The bright yellow helmet, and boots worn by Mintu symbolise safety and security.

Foad is a milestone shaped character with his hands made of roads which he uses to explain traffic rules to the public. It is coloured Yellow, Green, Red, and Black to signify national, state, rural and sity highways/ roads respectively. It also has a rough texture on the base standing for it's history and forgotten importance which needs to be brought back. The name "FOAT" means future of roads projecting a long way of developmental changes towards betterment in the transportation industry

MILEE: The Highway Milestone
Milee is a cheerful and approachable mascot inspired by the milestones that guide travellers along India’s National Highway network. Designed as a living milestone, Milee transforms a familiar symbol of distance, direction and progress into a friendly companion for every journey. His rounded milestone-inspired body represents the strength, stability and reliability associated with NHAI’s highway infrastructure. His curved arms and legs, featuring highway lane markings, bring the road itself to life and symbolise movement, connectivity and continuous journeys. The NHAI highway emblem on his helmet establishes his identity with the organisation, while the reflective band represents the importance of visibility and road safety. His simple shoes and welcoming pose keep him approachable and relatable to travellers and citizens of all ages. The clean silhouette and limited visual elements make Milee versatile for use across highway signages, awareness campaigns, educational material, digital platforms and merchandise. Milee is more than a milestone—he is a friendly symbol of the safe, connected and progressive journeys made possible by India’s highways.

Concept Note-
The mascot is inspired by the road roller, a familiar and essential machine at the heart of road construction. Its distinctive role transforming unfinished ground into strong, reliable roads symbolises NHAI’s commitment to building connectivity and strengthening the foundation of a developed India.
The mascot wears a safety helmet, representing NHAI’s strong emphasis on road safety, responsibility and protection of every road user. It carries a road-under-construction sign, highlighting the continuous effort, planning and teamwork behind India’s expanding highway network.
The slightly dusty roller and tyres intentionally reflect the hard work, dedication and perseverance of the people working behind the nation’s highways. Rather than portraying construction as spotless, this detail celebrates the effort that goes into nation-building.
Traditional Indian Mandana-inspired artwork, featuring plants and animals, is incorporated into the bonnet and front section. It connects modern infrastructure with India’s rich cultural heritage while symbolising biodiversity, harmony with nature and sustainable development. The clean, pollution-free exhaust further represents the vision of greener and more sustainable infrastructure.
Together, the mascot represents Connectivity, Safety, Hard Work, Innovation, Culture and Sustainability—reflecting NHAI’s role in building not just roads, but a connected, safe and sustainable India.
