As you will recall from the previous articles, under GST as a general rule, a person whose turnover exceeds Rs.20 Lakhs (10 Lakhs in special category states) need to take registration under GST.

As you would know, GST is a dual levy with the Centre and States simultaneously levying tax on a common tax base. GST levied by the Centre on intra-State supply of goods or services would be called the Central Tax, while GST levied by the States and Union Territories would be called the State Tax/UT Tax respectively.

The Current Indirect tax regime is quite complex. Central and State Governments levy a large number of taxes such as Central Excise duty, Service Tax, VAT, Purchase Tax, Central Sales Tax, Entry Tax, Local Body Taxes, Octroi, Luxury Tax, etc.
