While each smart city will have distinctive features specific to its location, demography, culture and other such factors, there maybe smart solutions to problems which are common to all cities. This contest seeks to identify such smart and innovative solutions to common problems.
All questions in this category must be answered to be considered as a complete submission and to be eligible for short-listing.
Questions
1. Out of the following 21 smart solutions, select 3 solutions that should be applied to all Indian cities and provide a brief write-up (max. 50 words) to explain why.
2. Describe a ‘smart’ idea that you have seen in some other city(anywhere in the world) that you would like to see replicated in your own city. ‘Smart idea’ means doing more with less.
3. Describe 3 ways that Indian cities can reduce the gap between rich and poor.
4. List out 5 essential facts about your local municipal corporation that should be available to all citizens.
Entry Deadline
• Entries may be submitted online on the mygov.in portal latest by 23.59 hours (11.59 pm) on Saturday, 20th June 2015.
Evaluation
The submissions will be evaluated on the following criteria:
• Do-ability (50%)
• Innovation (50%)
Award
Two winners in each category will be awarded a citation from the Prime Minister at the Smart City Mission Launch on June 25th, 2015 at VigyanBhavan, New Delhi, along witha cash prize of the following amounts:
• Rs. 40,000 - First Prize
• Rs. 25,000 - Second Prize
The winning ideas would be shared with the 100 SmartCities as potentiallyimplementablesolutions and will be considered for pilot
• All questions in a particular category must be answered to be considered as a complete submission and to be eligible for short-listing.
• The participants(s) entries will be judged for each category independently and on merit. In case of short listing in more than one category, a participant will receive prize money for one category only.
• The length of each answer is limited to 250 words or less.

Ans to Q.2 – More with Less
I have travelled to US, France and Thailand and have noticed that Toll Booths for Roads/Highways all over these places are handled either by 1 person or even unmanned. In India surprisingly 2 to 4 people stand in 1 booth and do the same job. Is one Indian not efficient enough to do the job.
1.citizen engagement will give feedback to improve conditions,waste to energy ,integrated multimodal transport
2.allowing free charging of batterys and electric vehicles as done in sanfrancisco but only if waste is properly segregated at trash can Thus introducing #trashCumCharging hub.
3.quality education ,proper implementation of existing policies and low intrest loan for entrpreneurship.
4.online services,complaint procedures , e-tenders,RTIprocedure,administrative structure.
Q2] Cities should be planned for 20-30 years and a strong agency with Criminal case filing power should be entrusted to enforce the plan. Any violation in plan should be punishable with jail and hefty fine. In India, almost everyone knowingly violates town plan and nothing happens. There is no agency to check the continuous implementation of the town plan. Town plan authority just provides the approval and no follow on checkup is done many years after the completion of the building.

iii) Tele- medicine & Tele-Education :- Knowledge is empowering citizens and what better way than tele-education. First line of treatment can be given through tele-medicine. Hospitals and clinics will not be crowded with patients to consult doctors if tele-medicine is available.

i)Waste water Management:- It will help to keep our water sources clean from industry effluents , provide clean and safe water for reuse and long-term aquatic and human health will not be harmed.
ii) Intelligent Traffic Management :- With increase in population of humans and cars unless we adopt intelligent traffic reducing systems our most precious entity that is TIME will be lost, stress levels in humans will increase not to mention the pollution that will be created.
c. Having a restriction in the per capita parking space and no of vehicles per family so as to reduce road space requirements and bring equity in the overall space allocation

2.CITIES LIKE BARCELONA CAN BE TAKEN AS AN EXAMPLE FOR OPEN GOVT.,SMART TRANSPORT,SMART ENERGY,ZERO EMISSION MOBILITY,SMART WATER,ETC.
3.a.GAP BETWEEN RICH AND POOR CAN BE REDUCED BY EDUCATING ALL CHILDREN,BY RESERVING SEATS IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS FOR BELOW POVERTY LINE(BPL) PEOPLE AND NOT BASED ON ANY CATEGORIES.
b.BY PROVIDING MORE JOB OPPORTUNITIES TO UNEMPLOYED AND UNDEREMPLOYED.
c.BY PROVIDING HOUSE FOR ALL PEOPLE,WHICH ARE LOW COST,ENERGY EFFICIENT BUILDINGS.
My submission
Municipal Corporation is the office which has maximum public dealing, so the more transparent the organization, it will be able to deliver better and establish its credibility. The five essential facts are:
a)Organizational structure & what are the rules
b)What is the municipal corporation working on
c)What services are to be paid for
d)What is the budget allocation & expenses
e)Transparency in dealings and awarding of contracts
