For years, Aziza Chaouni has worked to revive the Fez River, which runs through Fez, Morocco.Once considered the “soul” of this celebrated city, the river succumbed to sewage and pollution, and in the 1950s was covered over bit by bit until nothing remained. Aziza recounts her 20 year effort to restore this river to its former glory.

Revisit the files,experience and learnings a of the project BHOJ WETLAND.It Was undertaken in bhopal with help of JAPAN. To address the conservation and management of the lakes (one of them is the biggest man made lake) and its catchment area, the project was a success and results are visible, once a dirty lake it now hosts international water events and sees rare guests from Siberia every year.

River Ganga and other rivers can be clean only when any water entering them is "clean". Treat all streams, remove and reuse all solid wastes around river, use best technology to clean effluent/sewage. Using "nutrients" in human waste to grow duckweed, farming fish using that as feed, or separating proteins from farmed duckweed for feed and food, can be a profit making way to treat wastewater/sewage. Feasibility studies be conducted and pilot projects initiated to go ahead in the task. Comments?
A 4-5 yr plan with following action points can help clean Ganga:-
1. Clean the source to Ganga : Make a plan to clean the polluted tributaries and make sure water entering Ganga from these tributaries are treated before it enters Ganga.
2. Separate zone for religious customs: A small portion of the river should be diverted at places for people access and water should be treated before it enters Ganga again.
3.Educate: Educate religious custom followers on how we can stop polluting the river
This report is my sincere effort to collect details about how successful river restoration projects were/are implemented around the world. I have collected details about eight projects, that I found to be interesting, suitable and worthy of sharing here.
I would like to put forward a concept here. What I propose is dams at minimum three strategic locations. Perhaps, Tehri Dam can serve as the first one in this series. Next dam could be before Kanpur and the last one before Varanasi.
At each of these strategic dam sites, we need to set up massive Reverse Osmosis type systems to clean up the water. In this model, flow will not be obstructed as we can think of a least obstructive dam model but the temporary storage will simplify the process.
Aquatic plants that absorb pollutants can be utilised, fish and turtles that can remove human wastes, bodies, human waste should be treated and recylced by civic autorities, industrial effluents should be treated and recycled and this water should not go into the river, desilting reqd to stop floods and silt can be used for rejuvenating existing cultivable land and marshy land,development along the banks should be monitored
How to clean the River Ganga? But is it really question ..... i thing its our time to change our habits every single person who visits this holly river responsible for pollution ....see this link

there so many....so please ganga or any river is like our home whether we keep our home like this...so thing & do some thing before it too late
According to me the following two ways are most essential to save Ganga;
Awareness among people: People should be fully aware of the importance of Ganga, how it is important to keep her clean and what role they can play in keeping her clean.
2. taking help from nature to save nature: many microorganisms are known to curb pollution, also as long as the biological environment in the river body will sustain, the river will sustain. so saving the water life will help save Ganga;
Ganga Cleaning will required more energy.
This will cost to cleaning project.
But Ganga can itself generate power using Rift pump.
This will be generated at location . This power will be used for Ganga cleaning. Part of power can be sold out to generate fund for Ganga Cleaning.
