How can the latest advances in digital technologies, including use of mobile phones, big data analytics and other information technology solutions be deployed in Smart Cities. The entries may be in descriptive answer types and may use pictures or videos to explain the answers better.
All questions in this category must be answered to be considered as a complete submission and to be eligible for short-listing.
Questions
1. List three municipal services that can be improved with the use of a mobile phone.
2. Describe 3 aspects of your daily life that have improved with the use of the mobile phone.
3. Suggest 5 ways in which the use of big data can make Indian cities into smart cities.
4. Mention 3 new ways that information technology can improve Governance.
5. How can access to information and data make our public spaces safe and secure?
Entry Deadline
• Entries may be submitted online on the mygov.in portal latest by 23.59 hours (11.59 pm) on Saturday, 20th June 2015.
Evaluation
The submissions will be evaluated on the following criteria:
• Do-ability (50%)
• Innovation (50%)
Award
Two winners in each category will be awarded a citation from the Prime Minister at the Smart City Mission Launch on June 25th, 2015 at VigyanBhavan, New Delhi, along witha cash prize of the following amounts:
Rs. 40,000 - First Prize
Rs. 25,000 - Second Prize

The winning ideas would be shared with the 100 SmartCities as potentiallyimplementablesolutions and will be considered for pilot

• All questions in a particular category must be answered to be considered as a complete submission and to be eligible for short-listing.
• The participants(s) entries will be judged for each category independently and on merit. In case of short listing in more than one category, a participant will receive prize money for one category only.
• The length of each answer is limited to 250 words or less.

#SmartCities Ans1: 1.All local govt. bills should be made available/payable through Mobile. 2.Registration for appointment with officets/doctors should be done through Mobile. 3.All grievances/requests through single application.

#SmartCities 3.(i)Free bus passes are provided to school going children by the govt. This data could be analyzed to manage the traffic effectively. (ii)The tourism related cities should analyze the data and needs of the traveler.So that the time-place-tourist info could be mapped with each other and the transport flow could be analyzed and managed.(iii) There are common areas/places like vegetable market which looks pathetic at times of rainy season.These could be predetermined to manage it.

#SmartCities 2. Mobile internet makes big difference to search the routes. In villages the private bus conductors do share their mobile numbers with the regular travelers. This helps to check the arrival of bus.

Sir, large scale data collection can help in 1.proper town planning, decrease congestion 2.integrating transport network 3.facilitate faster response time in case of health emergencies / accidents 4.make policing high tech with more CCTVs, central control, recordable - reviewable, accountable 5.increase use of green / solar technology 6.interactive interface can be created as mobile app / computer for time bound projects, complaints & suggestions recorded & response given.

Sir, 1.EB, PWD, Railways & BSNL have shown that IT can be used for improved services, more can be done. 2. Traffic control, transport connectivity & education sector can use IT more usefully 3.Data collection & analysis will help in targeted solutions esp. in improving HDIndex in the BPL group 4.Health sector needs increased IT / data analysis for setting up need based parameters & delivery. 5.Overhauling of data collection technique & interpetation is needed for proper social sector planning.

Q5. How can access to information and data make our public spaces safe and secure? Ans:1.Data collected from Surveillance cameras/CCTV in public places can be used to search public spaces.2.The data such as no.of visitors,location & type info. visiting the places can be accessible to all.3.Applications like intelligent street lighting should be developed which will switch itself off/on when there is no person.The data can be used for places where there is more no. of people.
