With globalization and liberalization of Indian Economy in last two decades, numerous domestic and international companies have been drawn to investing in new modes of business/ business models targeted at the huge domestic market especially in the consumer goods & services. Direct Selling is one of these modes where goods /services are sold directly by the producer/service provider to the consumers. For this different models such as Multi Level/Network marketing, Door to Door Selling, Online Selling, Tele-shopping are being used. These practices are new and different from traditional retail through shops. In the absence of a proper regulatory framework, retail through these models leads to consumer grievances, trader’s issues, slow growth of the sector etc.

The aim of this discussion is to deliberate and evolve views of all stakeholders for providing a regulatory framework to the sector.

I recently read a forward msg which said: Most of the companies tag their prices as 499/- only or 999/- only and etc.. When we pay our money, they give a printed bill for Rs.499 as their so called "offer" and we, the descendants of Karna say them "Keep the change" (That is 1 rupee). they gain 1 rupee which falls out of their taxable income. Not much, you may think. But, Imagine what if all indians do the same across the country, the company will earn lakhs and crores which cannot be taxed.

The Government can do well by utilizing the direct selling/ Network Marketing business model to solve problems of uplifting people, employment, education, and inequality. These merits have been promoted by the who's who of the world like Bill Clinton, Robert Kiyosaki and many more. India needs SMART regulation for Network Marketing, just like any other industry, to ensure growth for and by genuine companies like QNET, and curb exploitation by others.

DS industry has many advantages such as It helps product reach at very cost effective price to consumers by cutting the marketing, advertising and distribution costs, the brunt of which is paid by high prices by consumers only. And, it provides entrepreneurship platform to one n all with low capital and enough guidance n mentorship programs. I have been associated with Qnet for over 18 months n my experience in terms of earnings n learnings is awesome. Heartfelt request for regulations!!
