With globalization and liberalization of Indian Economy in last two decades, numerous domestic and international companies have been drawn to investing in new modes of business/ business models targeted at the huge domestic market especially in the consumer goods & services. Direct Selling is one of these modes where goods /services are sold directly by the producer/service provider to the consumers. For this different models such as Multi Level/Network marketing, Door to Door Selling, Online Selling, Tele-shopping are being used. These practices are new and different from traditional retail through shops. In the absence of a proper regulatory framework, retail through these models leads to consumer grievances, trader’s issues, slow growth of the sector etc.

The aim of this discussion is to deliberate and evolve views of all stakeholders for providing a regulatory framework to the sector.

the Speed with whish DSA is progressing, its expected to take on lion's share in the future consumer market. It needs to be regulated with the prime focus on customer protection. There are multiple cases of customer being cheated either by the company itself or by the courier company. A common platform or toll free number should be provided for lodging such grievences..

In this case i would like to suggest direct selling policy for TOBACCO products (just for instance forget about its side effects), this is the most affected region for TRADER commission. The BIGGER fish in this business control the market by holding stock of the products and then charging whatever they feel like. As you all would be knowing this is an addictive habit so people are forced to pay whatever the shopkeeper is asking. This is a VICIOUS cycle of screwing the END CUSTOMER.

DIRECT SELLING IN INDIA LEAD TO A COMMON PROGRESS. IT HELP THE CUSTOMER TO PROTECT HIMSELF FROM UNFAIR MEAN OF COMPETITION.BUT IT ON OTHER HAND HARM THE LOCAL SELLER DUE TO REDUCTION IN HIS SALE. FOR BETTER MANAGEMENT GOVT CAN PROVIDE TRAINING TO SMALL TRADERS. DIRECT SELLER CAN BE DIRECTED TO USE LOCAL POPULATION FOR THE WORK TO BE DONE IN THE SHOPS. HOWEVER I AM NOT AGAINST THE DIRECT SELLING BUT THE SYSTEM OF SUPPLY CHAIN IN NOT IN SUCH SYSTEM.IT IS HARMFUL TO ALL WHO CONNECT IN SUPPLY CHAIN.

Consumer protection in India has very small amount of penalty built in. The penalty is so low that no mnc is scared of improper quality checks at their end. The legal system should ensure higher penalties in case an mnc is found flouting the rules. At the same time there should be a quick mechanism to resolve any flouting, for example maggi. If it is indeed ok, government should have acted faster. The dispute resolution mechanism in India is slow and results in unnecessary loss to the consumer.

India is ranked 142nd out of 189 countries in terms of ease of doing business lot of big companies are scared to do business here specially after the Maggi fiasco. Lot of genuine direct selling companies of world reputation are facing so much of difficulty to operate in india as they being harassed by police all the time. Young people are loosing hopes on this country coz of this harrasment. Hope we hear something on this soon. Thank you sir !

Past years some state governments and opposition parties were taking very keen interest on closing Beverages companies like Coke and Pepsi and sales of Liquors. The governments do not even bothered about the quality of foods being serving in Hotels and restaurants. According to News reports these are more dangerous to health than cola/liquor.
