With globalization and liberalization of Indian Economy in last two decades, numerous domestic and international companies have been drawn to investing in new modes of business/ business models targeted at the huge domestic market especially in the consumer goods & services. Direct Selling is one of these modes where goods /services are sold directly by the producer/service provider to the consumers. For this different models such as Multi Level/Network marketing, Door to Door Selling, Online Selling, Tele-shopping are being used. These practices are new and different from traditional retail through shops. In the absence of a proper regulatory framework, retail through these models leads to consumer grievances, trader’s issues, slow growth of the sector etc.

The aim of this discussion is to deliberate and evolve views of all stakeholders for providing a regulatory framework to the sector.

There are lot of patriotic citizens who would like to buy products made by Indian manufacturers so that it helps to Indian economy and multinational companies should not take money out of Indian economy. Hence I suggest every product should clearly mention if its manufactured by an Indian manufacturer. Jai Hind.

Why can't we standarise the weights for packaged items as unstandardized package items are misleading and difficult to regulate. Consumers can't compare easily the various products unit price to take right decision. I think this was the practice earlier but not sure when and how it got changed. Now a days in the market we see packages of various items such as 170 gms, 430 gms, 900 gms, 275 ml, 56 ml etc. Appreciate your attention on this

There may not be track records of receiving complaints and settling claims and require strict check from CBI or depute any private agency. There should be fixed target for settling claims.

Consumer court have become a farce. We had an issue with M/s.Metrocorp Infrastructure for which we filed a case with Consumer Court (Ref No. 188 dt. 24.12.2011). In spite of lapse of 3 years 5 months, the court has not even initiated the hearing of the case. What is the purpose of a consumer court if they cannot impart justice to the aggrieved parties. We hope you will seriously look into the matter and get our grievances redressed. Regards, S S Goenka 9845075502

protection of dealer from the manufacturer are also required like consumer rights. Since dealers sign the agreement what ever be the drafted by the manufacturer, always collect payment in advance, however while settling the claim given to the consumers, manufacturer deal isolately. They kept security deposits, and never return timely if some one want to resign from dealership.
