With globalization and liberalization of Indian Economy in last two decades, numerous domestic and international companies have been drawn to investing in new modes of business/ business models targeted at the huge domestic market especially in the consumer goods & services. Direct Selling is one of these modes where goods /services are sold directly by the producer/service provider to the consumers. For this different models such as Multi Level/Network marketing, Door to Door Selling, Online Selling, Tele-shopping are being used. These practices are new and different from traditional retail through shops. In the absence of a proper regulatory framework, retail through these models leads to consumer grievances, trader’s issues, slow growth of the sector etc.

The aim of this discussion is to deliberate and evolve views of all stakeholders for providing a regulatory framework to the sector.

Dear Sir, I am P A Cariappa, in the globalized world it is important to check prices of the product , and also the quality of it , because ultimately we the consumer will consume the product, it is our duty to check right product and give right price, and also proper channel must be implemented for eg: Manufacturer, Whole seller, End consumer, by this we can curb "Direct Selling Activities". Regards. P A Cariappa.

The joint entrance exam for IIT and engineering colleges should be based on practicals to the extent of 50%, like fixing taps, installing fuses to prospective aspirants. Have a database of such small DIY projects / tests for entrance exams. Better teach this at std 8 to 10th. This will help 'Make in India' may be one day we too may have patents to our names.

When price of pulses go up. What is the ministry of essential supplies doing. It is simple to create an excel sheet of all the prices from the last year. If the price goes up by more than 10%, announce import, or actually import to dissuade hoarders.

Make VAT simpler for small and first time traders, who want to do e-commerce. The deposit amount should be brought down to Rs. 5000/- to cover both State and Central Sales tax.

Prices on ready made clothes(specially kids ware) and Crackers are uncontrolled. MRP's are printed in crackers 100 times on actual selling price. I Request you to find good way to save middle class and poor citizens hard money. Prefix and non manipulating MRP can possible to avoid cheating to customers.

There is huge margin in price of cereals, pulses, vegetables ets between whole sellers and retailers. To bring down cost of these items, PPP model with institutes like Amul is suggested. Govt. imports items of short supply in huge quantities to flood the market and subsidize if necessary. Amul like institutes can be asked to resale it in packs of 500 gms. with MRP printed. Consumers can directly buy or if retailer takes it, he has to sell at MRP. Prices will be down by 30-40%
