The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
      1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
      a. Waste management and zero waste systems
      b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
      c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
      d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
      e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
      f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
      g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

      How to participate?
      1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
      2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
      3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

Dedicated Green Seva Kendras should be established across the temple premises to provide drinking water refill stations, visitor assistance, and waste collection points. This will significantly reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles and improve cleanliness

Traditional awareness boards don’t work in crowds. Use massive, high-visibility LED screens at the entry gates displaying a live ticker: "Total plastic prevented today: X kg. Total waste recycled: Y tons." Gamify the districts or sectors of the mela to spark competitive pride among camp organizers.Tie up with local colleges and NCC/NSS units across Western UP. Don’t just give them a broom; give them authority. Deploy them as "Prakriti Mitras" equipped with mega-phones and digital tabs

Bhandaras and Langars generate the most bulk waste. Enforce a mandatory three-bin system right at the dining areas, backed by an incentive: pandals that achieve 100% segregation get a "Green Certificate" and discounted municipal permissions for the next year.Don't just dump the offered flowers (Nirmalya) into local water bodies or trash heaps. Partner with local self-help groups (SHGs) right inside the mela grounds to convert floral waste into organic incense sticks (agarbatti) and natural dyes

Mandate that all local vendors within a 5km radius use leaf-based plates (pattals, dona) or compostable bagasse containers.Millions of coconuts are offered, creating massive organic waste. Set up centralized "Kalyan Kendras" where the outer husk is mechanically stripped before entering the temple precinct. For water, implement a QR-coded steel bottle deposit system pay ₹50 deposit, get it back when you return the bottle at any exit point.

A true “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi” event, I propose a low cost zero waste model based on segregation, reuse, and community participation. Three bin waste points should be placed at key locations, with wet waste sent for composting and dry waste sorted separately. Single use plastic should be replaced with eco friendly alternatives. A Green Seva Team and QR based visitor support can improve crowd management and cleanliness.
