Over the last few years, the Hon’ble Prime Minister has directly invited ideas and suggestions from citizens for the Independence Day Speech. Similarly, this year too the Prime Minister invites citizens to contribute their inputs for New India. So, now you have the opportunity to tell your ideas, give word to your suggestions and crystallize your vision. PM Narendra Modi may pick up some of the ideas in his speech on 15th August.

It is concerning that India is among the countries experiencing a rapid decline in groundwater levels. Rainwater harvesting systems designed to channel rainwater into the ground must be installed in government offices, homes, and industrial establishments. People should also be encouraged to create public infrastructure at the village level to direct rainwater into the ground. Groundwater levels need to rise. The recurring cycle of floods during the rainy season and water scarcity during the dry season persists; therefore, the Prime Minister should emphasize the importance of rainwater harvesting to the public in his Independence Day address. When this scheme was previously implemented in several states, the groundwater level rose. Therefore, the Prime Minister should urge the people of the country in his speech to harvest rainwater and raise the groundwater level.

A nationwide lockdown was implemented to curb the spread of COVID-19, and its impact persists to this day. Disruptions to public transport services during the lockdown led to an increase in the use of private vehicles—a habit that continues even now, with people still avoiding public transport. The Prime Minister should urge the public to return to using public transport. Since we rely on imports to meet our fuel needs, the Prime Minister should call upon the public to use public transport to help reduce fuel imports and mitigate environmental damage, such as high carbon emissions. An electric vehicle policy powered by electricity generated from renewable energy sources is the best electric vehicle policy; the government should adopt this as a goal.

The people of the country are being adversely affected by the fast-food culture; the younger generation, in particular, is facing various health issues. Conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and heart attacks are increasingly affecting young people, largely due to the daily consumption of fast food. While many foreign food options fall into the fast-food category, our country's traditional millet-based foods and snacks are highly nutritious. The Prime Minister should urge the citizens to consume millets, highlighting the health problems the youth have faced due to fast food and encouraging a shift towards millet consumption.

The Prime Minister should express condemnation of Pakistan and separatist forces in his speech. Pakistan continues to promote religious fundamentalism and terrorism. Since gaining independence, Pakistan has consistently pursued a path contrary to global peace. The Prime Minister must emphatically state that India will thwart Pakistan's subversive plots. India should also convey its condemnation to the nations and organizations that abet Pakistan's terrorist activities, making it clear that India will not hesitate to respond to them using its missiles.

The central rules for the new labour codes have come into effect, and workers' rights must be upheld. Child labour and the bonded labour system still persist in certain parts of the country. Although pledges to eradicate child labour and bonded labour are taken annually, they yield no results; the practices continue in one form or another. The Prime Minister should call upon the nation to put an end to this. The government and the people must work together to eliminate child labour and the bonded labour system from India. Furthermore, the policy of compulsory education should be extended to include vocational training or undergraduate degree courses for all. The Prime Minister should announce in his speech the extension of the compulsory education scheme to cover vocational education or undergraduate studies.

I suggest that, on 15 August, Independence Day, the Prime Minister announce a proposal to honour the warriors of India's freedom struggle by printing photographs of different freedom fighters on currency notes of different denominations—for example, Mahatma Gandhi on ₹500, Bhagat Singh on ₹200, Subhas Chandra Bose on ₹100, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on ₹50, Veer Savarkar on ₹20, and so on, with the order capable of being changed. New paper currency or plastic/polymer notes could be introduced gradually in this manner, without disturbing the existing currency already in circulation. The photographs could also be regularly shuffled/rotated every 2–3 years, featuring other freedom fighters from different regions and movements. This would allow India to pay tribute to a wider range of freedom fighters and help people, especially younger generations realise the wide and diverse contributions made by numerous freedom fighters.
