Identify locations, public buildings or areas in your locality which can be made friendlier for the differently-abled. Click photographs of the location and suggest measures which the local authorities can adopt to make it more disable-friendly. Make your locality a role-model for the entire country to follow!

NAMO SIR GREAT WORDS ON A.I.R "TELL ME SOMETHING WHICH WILL INSPIRE ALLOF US WITH EVIDENCE" Amazing kid who made our country proud across globe and who inspire millions despite on wheel chair and facing death due to fatal disease. He is Youngest Patent Holder of India and Youngest disable Patent holder of the World. Media of globe quoted him as Mini Stephen Hawkings and disability icon

Besides providing ramps in the buses (which is highly crucial) there should be ramps in all the cafes/eateries/shops etc. This would enable them to visit these places
First, equal opportunities at work, education, etc must be provided to them. They are a part of society & must be treated as such.
Some suggestions:
1.Ramps for entryways into buses
2.special spaces in buses wheelchairs can be latched on
3.Push buttons at road crossings & audio when walk sign is On
4.Special entry-ways to railway platforms,ticket counters,buses
Having worked with a 99% visually impaired mentor in US,I notice how much the disabled suffer in India.Freedom & esteem is lost.
I request the Central Government to start a campaign for SIDEWALKS.
Good sidewalks solve a lot of problems, namely; access to disabled, uniformity, cleanliness, commuter safety, curb appeal, right-of-way, contiguity, driveway irregularities, encroachment and delineation of public/private space.
Make simple illustrated handouts for commercial and residential areas to make it an integral part of local municipal code for "Swachh Bharat".
I pledge to be a part of this campaign development.
Some illustrations from the web showing respect to the disabled by providing them easy access and right-of-way.
I have a masters in city planning and worked as a planner for a city in the USA. We in India are least bothered about our disabled co-citizens. The sidewalks we have are dangerous even for an able bodied person. When a layout is sanctioned or a public/commercial building is given permission impose the rules which will enable a disabled person access every public space without the help of anyone. Make our disabled brothers and sisters feel inclusive and be an active participant in our society.
Infrastructure is not disabled friendly at all.Public toilets have no ramps. Public transport has no ramps. I have seen bus drivers in the US get off to push up a seat, release the ramp so that a handicapped person may board the bus. Compassion and care is something I rarely see in India. Men sit in buses while the elderly stand! The mental attitude and framework for integration need to be urgently revamped. We have progressed in many areas but sadly in social integration we are far, far behind.
Imperative to spread social awareness in India where public in general is apathetic/ inconsiderate. NGO efforts are not enough. It has to be a nationwide movement. Parent/child counselling in schools, community awareness by counsellors, involvement of the media and government, and LAWS are essential to help the disabled. Squatters, hawkers, flourishing tea stalls push even the abled onto the road in cities like Kolkata. How will the disabled traverse through the mess/ congestion,on pavements?
