The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), in collaboration with MyGov, invites suggestions  on the draft Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on the “Prevention & Response Framework for Drugs & Substance Use among Children.”

The SOP is being developed by NCPCR in accordance with the Joint Action Plan on Prevention of Drugs and Substance Abuse among Children and Illicit Trafficking, 2021.

The proposed Framework will incorporate inputs received from various stakeholders, emerging best practices, recent research, and relevant recommendations contained in the NCORD Vision Document.

The Framework aims to provide a comprehensive and child-centric approach for the prevention, early identification, response, treatment, rehabilitation, and reintegration of children affected by drug and substance use and illicit trafficking.

Through this initiative, NCPCR seeks valuable suggestions from stakeholders and citizens to strengthen the proposed Framework and ensure a coordinated, effective, and rights-based response to address drug and substance use among children.

Great initiative. As a mother I appreciate this whole heartedly. Why the drugs are easily sold and purchased in our country? The organisations or the offices working against the business of drugs should become more attentive. Strict laws should be implemented for those who are in this business. Then only the reach of drugs could be stopped to our children. Secondly programmes should be driven through out the country for the awareness, in schools and colleges. Parents awareness is important.

Respected Sir/Madam, To prevent drug and substance abuse among children, I would like to suggest the following points: 1. School Level: Every school should have compulsory awareness classes, counseling, and a dedicated counsellor. Drug abuse chapter should be included in curriculum. 2. Teachers & Parents Training: Parents and teachers should be trained to identify early signs of addiction. 3. Strict Enforcement: Strict ban on sale of tobacco, gutkha, drugs and alcohol within 500 meters of any school. 4. Rehabilitation: Every district should have a child-friendly rehabilitation and de-addiction centre with free treatment. 5. Positive Engagement: Government should promote sports, music, art and skill development clubs in villages and schools to keep children engaged. 6. Helpline: A 24x7 confidential helpline number for children to report or seek help. Thank you.

Greetings 🙏, My suggestion is to make awareness programs focusing on drug and substance abuse completely mandatory in all schools. These programs should include impactful educational videos that vividly depict the consequences of drug use, helping to instill a deep understanding of its dangers in students. Furthermore, they should go beyond just providing information to actively build students' decision-making skills, self-esteem, and life skills to help them resist negative pressures. Additionally, easily accessible support centers should be established at the community level. These centers should provide immediate psychological counseling and medical assistance to affected children and their families, ensuring timely and effective care. This integrated approach will address the core of the problem and help secure a safer future for our children. Jai Hind🇮🇳
