Prime Minister’s Vision for the Aspirational Districts

On 5th January 2018, while launching the Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP), Hon’ble Prime Minister said that “we are living in an era of immense possibilities which in turn creates opportunities. We need to identify existing aspirations in the District and channelise them to create ripple effect for transforming Aspirational Districts. The development of every village of these 112 districts is vital to our commitment to social justice.” Thus, it was clear to all that ADP was a bold attempt to reduce the inter-state and inter-district variations in development by adopting an evidence-based policy making approach driven by real-time data.

Roseline Purti was in shock in 2013 after her husband passed away suddenly, as he was the sole earning member of the family. The entire family’s financial burden fallen on Roseline. She has four daughters and after the death of her husband, she was completely distressed thinking about her daughter’s future. Roseline involved herself in the MKSP activities under DAY-NRLM in the year 2014 and got exposed to business of tamarind. She knew that she had to work hard to support her family financially. She established her business in 2015 after undergoing 45 days of skill training provided by two trainers from Hyderabad.

It is never easy for financially deprived women, to break the shackles of society and stand on her own feet. But 45 years old Urmila Linda is doing just that from lac business. Coming from a poor background, she had to drop out of her school after passing the 8th standard. Her father died at an early age, and owing to her mother’s illness, she compelled to discontinue her schooling to make ends meet for her family. Her brothers were also forced to drop out of their school. Though her uncle was in the Army, still they did not get any help from him financially. They had only 0.2 acre of land, which they used for growing paddy only, which was mostly used for home consumption.

The Ministry of Tourism is pleased to declare the winners of Paryatan Parv Quiz 2019 organized in order to create interest and awareness amongst the general public on various tourist destinations and encourage them to visit different tourist destinations in Incredible India. The quiz questions were about India in general with an emphasis on Tourism, Culture and History. The Quiz Competition was organized with effect from 4th to 30th October 2019 on the MyGov Platform. Total 33902 entries were received in the Quiz Competition.

The 2019 edition of India’s premier innovation and design contest, the India Innovation Challenge Design Contest (IICDC), is now entering the next stage. IICDC is organized by DST & Texas Instruments (TI) Inc. powered by AICTE mission, anchored by NSRCEL@IIMB and supported by MyGov. The recently concluded Quarterfinals phase saw 18,000+ teams comprising of 75,000+ students’ battle it out to win the approval of the evaluators.

G Varalakshmi was born into a poor agricultural family. Poverty at home meant that she could not complete her education and was soon married off to Lakshamanna. At a very young age itself, Varalakshmi displayed the qualities of a committed and hard-working individual in all spheres of activities she was entrusted . Following her marriage, she moved to Devanakonda Mandal in Kurnool district, a region that was prone to drought.

The journey of Mrs. Dipali Devi started as a member of the Ramdhenu SHG under Swarna Jayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY) way back in 2009. However, the group could not sustain due to lack of livelihood activities for its member and improper repayment within the group. The SHG was revived in 2013 under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY -NRLM), and after a few years of initial up and downs, the members finally decided to take their future in their own hands and adopted improved livelihood practices for ensuring a sustainable income.

Ms. C. Lalawmpuii (Maawmi) lives with her family in a small village called Hmuntha, located near the Tawi Bird Sanctuary within Serchhip District, Mizoram. She was brought up in a farming family, and her husband is a graduate who gives due importance to education. Concerned about the low quality and standard of the education system in their village, her husband took the initiative to uplift the standard of education and started running an English medium school. However, due to financial constraints, they were finding it difficult to run the school.

Abdul, the father of two, became firm in his resistance against vaccination after his younger child developed fever post vaccination.
