Promotion of linear growth along the structural axes of transportation
•Density reduced with increase in distance from the axis •The roads in each of the structural axes are divided into three: –central street for public transport and local access with parking. –On both sides of the central street there are one way streets for travelling away or into the down town area. •An express bus system covers the entire municipality area through exclusive traffic lanes.

Today max violations on roads, vehicle parking areas are by youngsters or are the main cause. UT traffic police hv also taken some blame for it. They hv not been serious while giving permanent license to them. They must act with stern hand with youngsters driving vehicles without drv lic or learner lic holders not having permanent lic by their side. At least in children traf park sec-23 & sec-17, UT police should be strict not only challan such cases but also debar them for 3 months for test.
I think the challenges lies in what alternative mode of transport is available to citizen. Mostly the problem lies in last mile connectivity. If buses run on time and with reasonable frequency, the citizen will use it. I found that public transport (Metro/Bus) is almost not available after 10PM in Delhi. Even if one have to leave home early in the day will not use public conveyance as they have to worry about returning at night. Provide adequate public transport and people will switch.
Great comments discussed by my fellow citizens. One of more simpler and inexpensive option might be to float my office hours for various offices. 9-5 for some 8-4 , 7-3, 10-6 and so. This will distribute the traffic until the more permanent solution is planned for. Public Transportation may be the only viable solution as a permanent fix but then it should cover every nook and corner of the city. City of 'Seattle', New York are great examples.
we need metro in chandigarh but it will cost approx 10900 crore for 37 km track ( data taken from net), if we implement 500 local ac buses in the city which connect local other cities like mohali, panchkula derabassi baddi zirakpur rajpura kharar, that will be cost around 100 - 300 crore even if we deposite 10900 crore in bank we will get interest 100 crore in a year, now we have to decide which one is better, metro or ac buses now
cycle tracks not maintained in the city, cycle on rent should be introduced on private collabration in the city specially tourist place
1. Metro is must for chandigarh
2. Near by places like Mohali, New Chandigarh,Ambala,Pantchkula, Rajpura etc must be connected by Metro.
3. More water bodies like Sukhna Lake must be created in Chandigarh to avoid congestion at one place.
4. Lane driving should be made compulsory. Citizens must be educated on it for 6 months and after that fine can be imposed who break the lane.
5. Hi tech parking spaces must be made in Chandigarh city.
6. Malls must have sufficient parking space.
