दुनिया भर में भारत फल और सब्जियों का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा उत्पादक है। लेकिन, हमारे देश में जल्दी खराब होने वाले उत्पादों के प्रसंस्करण की सुविधा चीन, ब्राजील, मलेशिया, वियतनाम, जैसे विकसित या विकासशील देशों की तुलना में बहुत कम है। देश में फल और सब्जियों के प्रसंस्करण के विकास में प्रमुख बाधाएं कुशल आपूर्ति श्रृंखला एवं आधुनिक और उपयुक्त बुनियादी सुविधा का उपलब्ध न होना है। परिणामस्वरूप, देश में फल एवं सब्जियों की अत्यधिक बर्बादी हो रही है जिसके फलस्वरूप किसानों को उनकी उपज के लिए पर्याप्त पारिश्रमिक नहीं मिल रहा। आईसीएआर संस्थान के केन्द्रीय कटाई-उपरांत अभियांत्रिकी और प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान, लुधियाना, द्वारा किए गए एक अध्ययन के अनुसार विभिन्न कृषि फसलों की 6-18% तक बर्बादी होती है जिनमें सबसे जादा बर्बादी फल और सब्जियों की होती है।

खाद्य प्रसंस्करण उद्योग मंत्रालय इस नुकसान में कमी लाने हेतु आपके विचार / सुझाव चाहता है।

Set up a Perishable Food Storage Autonomous body. They will act as both a Venture Capital Fundis as well as Technology Advisors. This can be a PPP initiative e.g like IL&FS. They will be a nodal body for helping farmers and as the initial intermediary for private or Govt. service providers. They will be the "GO TO" place with online and physical presence in all states. They will provide information of existing facilities and track new facilities, in order to share good practices & avoid overlaps

Promote entrepreneurs to work at local level to establish Controlled Atmosphere storage and modern processing tech with local farmer and/or co-operatives (represented by local panchayat representatives and administration officials) as partners to the growth. A part of subsidies amount should be directed to make the farmer compete adding value to the product. The same may be easier achieved by inviting foreign money and in return giving away the profits of value addition that should go to farmers

1. Identify the areas, where large scale production of fruits and vegetables and post harvest losses are very high. 2. Encourage the manufactures/traders to construct appropriate cold strorages. 3. Also encourage other support service organisations in the cold chain (supply chain) to contribute their roles very effective 4. Bring the latest technology 5. Conduct exposure visits to the various stake holders to such areas, where the post-harvest losses had been minimised.

There should be cooperative cold storage and food processing unit present in each Tehsil. We should motivate the dry/dehydrated vegetables which have long term self preservative properties.There is need of dehydration center in each district. No vegetable should stay in market more than 3 days. If vegiee not sold in 3 days then it should transfer to dehydration unit.

The first step to reduce post-harvest losses in supply chain of fruits & vegetables i sto build a database of the details of which fruit and vegetables is being grown in each farm and area under cultivation. Then this data is to be mapped village and district wise to find out the estimated quantity of different fruits and vegetables being grown in each district of the country. Compilation and analysis of this data needs to be done with the existing supply chain (availability of warehouse, transportation, mandis etc) to identify the reasons for the post harvest losses. Corrective action then can be taken depending on the nature of problem identified - ie. lack of appropriate warehousing facilities or appropriate transportation facilities or nearby mandis for sale of produce.

Yuvamitra, Sinner dist Nashik has developed innovative initiative wherein vegetables are grown on 5 Are plot with lag of a day , so that that vegetables are harvested on every day through these plots which fetches minimum 1000 per day to farmers each day . Hundreds of farmers adopted this few villages in sinner .it will interesting to replicate these to avoid wastage to same extent and to provide value for agri- produce

In order to curb the rising losses after post harvesting, the Government should ensure smooth transportation of the harvest through building smooth, pot-holes free road, ensuring adequate traffic mechanism, improving the condition of existing and establishing new warehouses and godowns with sufficient use of new technology and use of IT in preserving the fruits and vegetables post-harvest which can be stored for short period till sale.This will also help in lowering inflation and maintaining it.

Collect all fruits n vegetables from farmers so that they dont face a loss than govt. Should set up good storage facility so that the quality is nt affectd and can be stored for long period and packaging system should be improved...

Use advertisement for no lose no waste lines... Use mobilised warehouses who collects the stored food from farmers and get them to the big coming warehouse....
