The State Transport Authority (STA), U.T., Chandigarh has initiated a citywide enforcement campaign against the illegal and pollution causing vehicles, especially diesel auto-rickshaws that had been plying in the city. This drive had been initiated in the entire city to take a firm step towards creating a pollution free environment in the city, keeping in mind the larger public health concerns of the residents.

As per the latest data submitted by the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC), there has been a significant decline in the various pollutants including SPM, RSPM, SO2, and NOx in various places of Chandigarh being monitored by CPCC over the past two weeks, ever since the drive was started by the State Transport Authority.

Meanwhile, to facilitate passenger movement, Chandigarh Administration is also strengthening its public transport system, by increasing the number & frequency of buses of the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) and also enhancing their routes.

In view of this recent anti-pollution campaign of the State Transport Authority, Chandigarh Administration hereby invites citizens of Chandigarh to tell us what is their opinion about the banning of illegal and pollution causing diesel auto-rickshaws in Chandigarh. Further, suggestions/ideas are invited from the residents to help us ensure that a clean and pollution free air is provided in the City Beautiful.

chandigarh is a well developed city. but it is observed that pollution has become a major concern. many upper middle class and middleclass do not consider using public transport. my request to the government is to maintain the buses well so that usage is not only limited to lower classes

Campaign against pollution causing vehicles in Chandigarh

While I stand by my views already submitted on the topic, it may kindly be noted thatit has been observed that a significant number of people have become jobless due to ban on diesel vehicles, exploited by people with ulterior motives. LPG fitted autos are fleecing the customers, there are no meters in autos for fair fares. Kindly have a relook from the holistic perspective, in public interest.

1)FIRST AND FOREMOST CREATE AWARENESS ON POLLUTION CAUSED BY THESE VEHICLES.
2)TELL THEM TO USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT MAXIMUM
3)NOT ONLY CHANDIGARH , ALL OVER COUNTRY STRICTLY SEE THAT ONLY CNG IS USED IN 3 AND 4 WHEELERS
4) WITH THE HELP OF SORROUNDING PEOPLE ONLY ,PLANT TRESS ALONG THE SIDES OF ROAD OR IN BETWEEN THE ROADS IN ALL PARTS OF CITY, DISTRICT, STATE COUNTRY SO THAT THEY ALSO FEEL RESPONSIBLE

1. Crackdown on vehicles emitting smoke. I could see trucks with black exhaust.
2. Crackdown on false PUC issued by centers. I can say for sure the PUC ccentre at Sector 31 petrol pump issues certificates without testing the vehicle.
3. Impose a congestion tax on vehicles entering the city. This should be displayed on the windscreen and payable in advance online.
4. Improve the public transport system. Multistorey parking outside the city with waiting rooms and a regular bus service into city

1. There should be strict stricture passed for No open fire in any area.
2. Pollution deptt. officer should make round the clock checking in areas.
3. On the spot checking of Three wheeler, trucks, buses, as being done to check speed of vehicles.
4. Pollution control boots do not check the vehicles just give slip for pollution check.
5. Sweeper mostly burns and waste and leaves in open; that is main source of pollution.
6. At red lights, engines should be closed.

Greetings of the day! Pollution control in city beautiful can be achieved only with the cooperation of citizens with the government. its our duty also to protect the environment rather then solely expecting from the government to make the efforts. We have to compromise somewhere also for the pollution control campaign. we need to give up our 4/2 Wheeler's drive if we are going to nearby sectors or where we have no urgency. we should encourage the use of bicycles again now. STOP unnecessary GEDI

This is a pretty strong step in improving the living conditions in city beautiful. The govt should also re-think on public transport system viability since these also run on diesel. Apart from that, pollution is not only related with air. The govt should also check the decibel levels and pollution being caused through water. Well done, Chandigarh Administration.!

I shared these links through note on my FB post in 2011 where I criticized the Govt. for not introducing CNG nationwide. Please read & see the links given. The solution lies with the Govt. itself who stops the diesel vehicle 1st instead of giving solution steps as under:
1. Make available CNG at Roadways petro station
2. Convert all CTU Local vehicles to CNG
3. Offer subsidy to Citizens/Diesel Auto for converting diesel/petro cars to CNG
4 Make available CNG at 50% outlets
Step 3 Offer c
