Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

In lieu of plastic carry bags jute bags can be used. These bags are bio degradable and do not lead to pollution of the environment. Besides, if jute bags are introduced in the market then the jute industry will flourish and will provide employment to lots of people.
In place of #PlasticCups clay cups can be introduced. They are also environmentally sustainable.

Sir, there is no space to write about Port Blair so I am writing here. Though plastic is banned in this small island there I rampant use of plastics, the beautiful sea beach isblined with plastic bottles coke Pepsi and cold drinks with no one to check.
2. Municipal corporation is doing an excellent job but they don't provide enough no of large dust bin or garbage collectors this results in increase in accumulation of waste on road every day. May be picking garbage from ground is easierthat.

The factories that make plastic bags should be directed to substitute them with eco friendly bags n supply the same to their partners. The source needs to be controlled not the end product.
The availability of these changed products should be easy n common.

We need to make plastic bags chargable...also encourage people to have points /discount if they bring their own bags. Spread awareness in mandis/sabziwallas by having stall of cloth bags nearby.

Instead of plastic there should be an alteranate option like for carry bag we should use cotton bags (khadi). Also to reduce the polution we must use less plastic carbage so automatically it reduce the production of plastic products.

Plastic is wonderful packing material. It is very cheap does get affected by water and it is available everywhere. The only disadvantage and the most important one is that it pollutes our nature. Since it is very difficult to replace plastic we should make it bio-degradable. By adding only two percentage of additive while making plastic, we can make it vanish in the thin air. So instead fighting against plastic let us make it bio-degradable and have the cake and eat it too.

Plastic carry bags should be made chargeable at 50p per bag nationwide with shoppers encouraged to bring their own shopping reusable bags.
Hongkong has been implementing this for sometime now successfully.
