Although Indian Railways enjoy the highest captive eyeballs in a railway system internationally, it earns less than 5% of its revenues through non-tariff sources. Many of the world ...
Railways should introduce "Carry Your Vehicle" scheme wherein option should be given to travellers to book their vehicles in train during their journey (preferably two wheeler as it is fuel efficient as compared to cars). This type of service will prove very effective for railways in terms of revenue generation as passengers can carry their two wheeler to the destination and can bring back after use. Option of booking should also be given for to & fro journey.
Railways have to do very simple and basic things that is -Entertainment things like PAID VIDEO GAMES AND POOL GAME should be installed on the platform so that the kids enjoy during traveling.one more thing that is 'FINES ' . Fine must be imposed to every person that is responsible for the small and big crimes like smoking and Garbage throwing etc. Fines can help railways to earn more revenues
At every district level set up high schools colleges and hospitals next to railway stations . Run shuttle trains to provide access to these for all villages in district . This will increase usage of existing tracks while providing access to valuable services to everyone
Use normal rail tracks to provide transport in metros augmenting metro rail services
Spaces available on all station used for commercial shopping complex and entry should be from outside.
Like in Mumbai near all railway stations there is market. we can built a station's premises into multi storied commercial complexes.. and those complexes we will give to business person on lease.
Indian Railway owns thousands of acres of land on both side of railway tracks. Most of these lands are water lands. If Indian Railway can lease out these water lands in an organised way for the purpose of fishing then Indian Railway may earn huge revenue.Ecological balance will also not be disturbed. Regards

Take Your Car Along with You Scheme:
1. Make arrangements for allowing a passenger to bring his/her personal car onto a passenger train in which he travels from Station A to Station B.
2. Make arrangements to park his/her personal car onto the train on open wagons that are redesigned for this purpose and attached to the train in the rear side after the General Compartment as per the demand generated while reserving tickets.
3. Arrange for Loading and Unloading at designated stations.
First and foremost .. Keep enough dust bins in all platforms and arrange it to be cleared timely. THEN fine heavily if any body throw any trash, food items on platforms.
FINE HEAVILY those who spit, shit, urinate on platforms.
FINE HEAVILY those who smoke, chew pan on platforms.
A new platform attendant post can be created especially for this purpose in big cities and their salaries can be given from the fine collected. They should have full responsibility for Dust bins/Toilets.
Railways can earn a lot of non-fare revenue from branded companies/ PSUs/ Pvt. Companies through advertising their products and services. Trains as well we railway platforms can be used as a medium for advertising (outdoor as well as indoor). LCD monitors can be placed inside the trains for ads or panels may be installed wherein companies can place their brochures. Trains can be beautified by placing/ sticking banners of various companies/ movies etc. This will prove to be one of the best source
The bogies/wagons are heavy compared to the tonnage/passengers they hold. We have to reduce the weight of these carriages, improve strength/weight ratio by using high strength-low weight materials, so that engine power is used more efficiently. For example a passenger's seat/berth is heavier than the passenger. Here Railways are loosing a lot. Though there are other factors, it has to be studied thoroughly to become advantageous.
