The city of Davanagere is located at a distance of about 260 km from the state capital of Bangalore. It is nestled at the foothills of the Western Ghats. Previously known for its cotton mills, it is a fast developing city of Karnataka. The arid town was once a thriving textile center. This place is also called as 'Manchester of Karnataka' or textile capital of South India.

Davanagere City Municpal Council came into existence on 7th Aug, 1951. Later it is upgraded as Davanagere City Corporation on 6th Jan, 2007. Presently it has jurisdiction over an area of 68.63 Sq. Kms with over 1.5 lakh properties. Davanagere City Corporation is situated at the P B Road, opposite to City Railway Station, Davanagere.

For its governance, the Davanagere City Corporation is divided into 41 wards, each represented by a Corporator. 2. Undue commercialization or our roads meant for residential purpose have left the roads congested. So it is important to earmark areas for commercial activities and stick to those areas and let everybody else live in peace. Davangere is a commerce hub, but its people have exploited it in a random fashion. STOP SHOP CONVERSIONS AT EVERY CORNER SITE. Should the people continue to flout rules, then they should be taxed higher.

1. Cleanliness is next to godliness... efforts to pick garbage and dispose is good, it could be better. Most importantly we need to get rid of the pigs and cattle, for sociopolitical reasons it cannot be allowed to continue as now, shift cows to goshala and pigs to sties outside city limits. Pigs & dogs do come in the way of depositing the garbage into the containers and dogs can climb containers and mess up the mess.
