This refers to Paragraphs 79 and 80 of the Budget Speech 2025-26, which highlight the establishment of a mechanism to drive private sector-led research and innovation at a commercial scale. This initiative is backed by an allocation of ₹20,000 crore as a corpus for the Research, Development, and Innovation scheme, forming part of the ₹1 lakh crore fund for private sector R&D announced in the Budget 2024-25.

In light of this, a Post-Budget Webinar 2025 will be conducted in virtual mode on March 5, 2025. The link to this webinar is https://pmindiawebcast.nic.in/

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) and MyGov are organizing this activity to gather insights from sector experts, facilitating the development of more effective policies, measures, and schemes.

Divide discussions into key focus areas like AI & Emerging Tech, Healthcare, Green Energy, Space & Defense, and Agriculture Tech to allow deep dives into specific sectors. Invite startups, industry leaders, and academia to discuss how private R&D funding can drive innovation. Showcase success stories of Indian companies benefiting from R&D investment. Use live polling, chat features, and Q&A sessions to involve the audience. Allow MyGov users to submit ideas on utilizing the ₹20,000 crore corpus. DST should present a clear roadmap on how the funding will be disbursed and monitored. Highlight incentives for private players to invest in research. Announce platforms where research institutions, startups, and corporates can collaborate. Introduce a matchmaking mechanism for industry-academia partnerships. Thank You 🇮🇳

Advanced Electronics and semiconductor solutions require a lot of funding and need 2-3 years or even more depending on the complexity to start making revenue. The problem is the Investor environment in India is oriented towards quick revenue instead of creation of state of the art solutions. This severely restricts startups to focus only on consumer and low cost solutions instead of state of the art solutions that give them an edge in terms of IP and functionality. As a result, startup that are capable of making state of the art solutions are incentivised not to or have to sustain without vc funding till revenue. Hope this initiative solves the chicken and egg problem for capable startups.

The Post Budget Webinar on Investing in Innovation, and its Parallel Breakout/Sub Theme Sessions were very intriguing. It would definitely boost the R&D in the country. Involvement or funding to the state universities with limited resources can also be considered as many a times crude, raw but novel ideas come up but these are mostly not supported due to financial crunch.

I feel this is a really good initiative , which is definitely going to be helpful to bring out the ideas into expansion in a wide scale. The concept of "Traders to Builders" is exactly what our nation needs to work on . The mission and vission was discussed clearly ,and I hope a lot of deserved and talented ideas get a spotlight because of this opportunity.
