As part of the Government of India’s vision for Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in collaboration with MyGov invites citizens to actively participate in the initiative themed “Role of Tribal Communities in Viksit Bharat”. This initiative aims to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of India’s tribal communities in shaping a sustainable, inclusive, and progressive nation.

Participants are encouraged to share their ideas, suggestions, and perspectives on how tribal knowledge systems, cultural heritage, sustainable practices, and community-led models can serve as guiding forces in India’s socio-economic, cultural, and environmental development.

Discussion is open to all Indian citizens. Selected ideas may be featured in national publications, exhibitions, and included in policy-level discussions.

What are the benefits of forests to our communities? Through stabilization of soil, forests minimize erosion and reduce the impairment of water quality due to sedimentation. Woodlands protect water bodies and watercourses by trapping sediments and pollutants from other up-slope land uses and activities. Forests also help to maintain nutrient cycling in the soil.

Promotion of biodiversity:-Tribals have developed practices to protect and promote diversity which includes traditional methods of agriculture, such as intercropping and seed-saving as well as the protection of sacred sites that are important for the preservation of biodiversity.

How do tribals benefit the forest? Tribals not only use the forest as a resource for fulfilling their basic needs, but they also use it as a means of livelihood. They collect nature produce such as dry and fallen wood for fuel, small timber, bamboos, nuts, berries, bones, hide, skins and herbs etc. as a source of income give their contribution in the intrest of the country.
