The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJE), in collaboration with MyGov, invites comments and suggestions from stakeholders and the general public on the draft accessibility standards for the Information & Communication Technology Sector. These draft standards, which identify non-negotiable rules, have been prepared to strengthen the creation of barrier-free environments in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and relevant rules.

The draft standards are a great step forward. I suggest ensuring that all public financial platforms—like those under NCGTC (e.g., CGFMU and ECLGS)—adhere to WCAG 2.1 guidelines. This will help entrepreneurs with disabilities access credit schemes without barriers. Accessibility audits, simple language, screen reader support, and mobile responsiveness should be mandatory. Inclusive digital infrastructure isn’t just compliance—it’s empowerment.
