The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJE), in collaboration with MyGov, invites comments and suggestions from stakeholders and the general public on the draft accessibility standards for the Products Sector. These draft standards, which identify non-negotiable rules, have been prepared to strengthen the creation of barrier-free environments in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and relevant rules.

All interested individuals are requested to carefully examine the proposed standards and submit their feedback, comments, and suggestions on the MyGov platform, ensuring that personal details are entered accurately during registration.

Respected Modiji, India generates nearly 160,000 tonnes of waste daily, with most ending in overflowing landfills that cause methane, fires, and pollution. I wish to propose a National Waste-to-Energy (WtE) Mission that can clean our cities while adding renewable power. By setting up WtE plants in 5,020 cities, phased as metros (50 MW), large cities (15 MW), medium (10 MW), and small towns (5 MW), we can create ~25,550 MW capacity. This will generate 180–200 TWh annually, produce ₹1.2 lakh crore in revenue, and create 3–4 lakh jobs. The investment (~₹8–17 lakh crore) can be funded through PPP, tipping fees, green bonds, and carbon credits. This mission will directly support Swachh Bharat 2.0, strengthen energy security, and advance Net Zero 2070. I request your kind consideration to launch this program under PMO leadership. India has recently drafted comprehensive accessibility standards for everyday products, including kitchenware, furniture, and grooming items, to ensure barrier-free access for persons with disabilities. These draft standards, currently open for public comment, mandate features like Braille, tactile indicators, and clear labeling. Products will be required to follow the POUR principles (Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust) and undergo mandatory accessibility testing. Industry stakeholders and the public can submit feedback on these standards through the MyGov platform.  Key Aspects of the Draft Standards Inclusivity:The standards aim to make everyday products usable by everyone, including those with visual, hearing, mobility, and other disabilities.  POUR Principles:Products must adhere to the universally recognized POUR principles of universal design.
