One important method used to maintain this accuracy is the substitution of factories. Substitution of factories simply means replacing old, closed, non-reported or irrelevant factories with new and active ones in the data collection system. Since the IIP is based on monthly production reports from a fixed list of factories, any change in these factories directly affects the accuracy of the index. If a factory that was included in the original sample stops working, shuts down permanent.
