As Ganga flows through different states and cities, each bank or ghat on it does become a tourist spot, be it Varanasi, Haridwar, etc. But the issues here is not to promote only tourism but to take into account the present condition improvement that will make tourists come and visit here again. The word Ganges rings bells of temples and religious places in any Indian's mind. Then why not improve it the way it is rather than adding more to already worse conditions?

1.Like the Golden quadrilateral , a tourism centric network of transport should be built connecting the major sites such as Kashi, Varanasi and Gangotri, on the banks of the river. Ganga thus providing access for tourists.
2. inland waterways should be developed so that people can tour the river by boat.
3. a particular expedition only involving the temples along the banks of the river can be introduced. the involvement of religious trusts should be accepted.

Why dont we plan to harness ayurvedic medicinal plans on the bank of the river. This how we will be getting work for community and will promote Ayurveda in country plus the fund raised can be used in Ganga cleaning process

Steps to promote Tourism along River Ganga -1. Create National Parks to conserve Medicinal & Endangered plants which can be opened for visitors, tourists, nature lovers & students. 2. Water sports must be organised in which no fuel or polluting element would be used. These sports can be organised twice or thrice a year & promoted worldwide. Sports like rafting, barefoot skiing, boat racing, bodyboarding, rowing, etc. 3 Tour programs can be organised to tour along the river from Gangotri to delta

I have attached a power point presentation outlining 3 goals for keeping Ganga clean:-
1. Preventing Industrial effluents from flowing into Ganga untreated
2. Preventing Sewage from flowing into Ganga untreated
3. Once Ganga is cleaned we should limit access to the banks and add green zones to prevent it from getting dirty again
4. We might have to engage Bangladesh and pay them to clean up, if they don't do anything and dirty water flows back during high tide, etc.
Also attaching PPT.

Identify 20 to 30 sites for 5 to 7 star resort projects along the course of the Ganga. Make it mandatory for each Resort to adopt "Green Practises" and to construct & operate a sewage & waste treatment plant. Do not allow any other construction within a few kilometers from the Ganga. The revenue generated from selling the Land to the Resort and the regular revenue generated from taxes on these resort can fund the clean Ganga campaign.

First we must stop dumping up of dried Flower residue and corpse in the river Ganga. It may be against the spiritual beliefs but that was applicable to a population size of a handful of people 100's of years ago. We must remember that our population is huge now and we must understand the need to optimize the utilization of free available natural resource(Ganga). Assume 5 corpse =50kg of decomposing organisms each are dumped everyday, then it equals 91250kg's of Harmful live pathogens a year.
