1.Lack of utility facilities at ghats. 2.Lack of proper discharge of religious offerings. 3.Lack of creation of eco-friendly offerings made to the river. 4.Untreated urban sewage discharge. 5.Bathing & open defecation near river bank. 6.Discharge of human & animal corpses in the river. 7.Ever shrinking expanse of Ganges-lifeline of India. 8.Illegal and over-mining of sand. 9.Use of pollution causing motor boats. 10.Illegal fishing-disturbs the ecosystem of river.

The attachment notifies 10 major challenges and in order to change the face of Ganga , these need to be addressed with right policies and actions.Last but not least the major challenge is the " Mindset of people" if that can be addressed , everything else will follow. People shall be made aware their impressibilities and duties towards river Ganga!

The Major Challenges are : 1. In the name of religion many waste are put in river this is most difficult to control as it hurts people sentiments. i think to stop this activity many platforms with pot are to be kept on the banks at regular intervals where people can put their diya and all other thing which they want to offer. 2. Holy Dips and washing clothes therein : separate channels to be used to bathing the water of which should be treated first before it re enters the main stream

(1) Financing pollutant units/ industries/municipal bodies for setting up units to clean the effluents from the sources.(2) Enforcement by District Administration due to rampant corruption in authorities (3) Booking culprits under relevant penal provisions as Police is not equipped to handle such crimes. (4) Generating public awareness to report pollution in their areas (5) A toll free number on report of anonymous complaints of polluting sources. (6) Officers and their responsibiities

Need to create a waste water treatment plant in each city located near rivers and develop small scale industries in respective areas to use industries waste materials efficiently in stead of dumping all it in the rivers.

separate ghats to be built for bathing and no where else to be permitted, make reservation system for devotees if needed. the idols to visarjan must be made of mud, plastics to be dumped in special bins. Dust bin at every corner. Recruit all the beggars to sweep the town. restrict large parts of ghats inadmissible to common people while off festive seasons for few years for a recovery. terminate the licence of bad motorboats.
