The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
      1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
      a. Waste management and zero waste systems
      b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
      c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
      d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
      e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
      f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
      g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

      How to participate?
      1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
      2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
      3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

Green Seva Points – Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi Set up QR-enabled Green Seva Points where devotees deposit segregated waste and earn eco-rewards like saplings, cloth bags, or seed balls and VIP Darshan pass. Deploy youth volunteers as “Green Shivdoots” to promote cleanliness. Use biodegradable utensils, compost flower offerings, install water refill stations, and provide QR-based information services. This model can make the Mahashivratri Mela a truly Zero Waste and sustainable event.

A truly sustainable mela cannot be achieved only through more dustbins and cleaning staff. The environment itself should encourage responsible behaviour. Just as people naturally maintain cleanliness inside malls, airports, and temples, the mela can be designed using behavioural cues, attractive public spaces, visible Eco Waste Towers, and community participation so that devotees voluntarily keep the venue clean. The goal is to create a culture of environmental responsibility rather than a syste

"A Youth Model for Zero-Waste Mahotsav!" As a dedicated volunteer, I believe our faith and sustainability can go hand-in-hand. To transform Pura Mahadev Temple's Mahashivratri into a clean, green festival, I have drafted actionable plans including a strict single-use plastic ban, mandate for leaf plates (pattals), source segregation with smart bins, and converting floral waste into organic compost. Please check my attached PDF for the full execution blueprint! 🙏✨
