The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
      1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
      a. Waste management and zero waste systems
      b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
      c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
      d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
      e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
      f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
      g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

      How to participate?
      1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
      2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
      3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

Smart Green Mela Idea To make the Mahashivratri Mela zero-waste, QR codes can replace printed pamphlets. Colour-coded bins for wet, dry, and recyclable waste should be placed across the mela. Organic waste can be converted into compost. Vendors should use biodegradable plates and cups instead of plastic. A mobile app can help report litter and monitor cleanliness. Students and volunteers can spread awareness and encourage visitors to keep the mela clean and eco-friendly.

Zero-Waste Contribution Ideas for Maha Shivaratri – Eco-Friendly & Sustainable Practices Maha Shivaratri is one of the most sacred festivals celebrated across India with great devotion and spiritual energy. Dear Team, It is advisable to use banana leaves and other leaves for food storage. After consuming food, the same shall be dumped in the earth in a big pit, so that it will not be a waste. This will create manure after a few days. Use coconut shells for drinking water instead of plastic or thin plastic or paper glasses. Advise everybody to use proper dust bins to throw their waste. Clear all the bins at regular intervals. Dump all the collected waste into a big pit outside.

To make the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela a “Zero Waste Mahotsav,” eco-friendly materials like leaf plates and clay cups can replace plastics. Smart colour-coded bins, QR-based water refill stations and composting of temple waste can reduce pollution. A “Green Volunteer Sena” of youth can spread awareness and manage cleanliness. Real-time monitoring and digital rewards for eco-friendly actions can promote sustainable tourism under the theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi.”
