I have a simple solution to prevent the accidents at unmanned crossings which cost Rs50000 to install.

Installing small and cheap sensors on unmanned level crossing what most of developed country have can save hundards of lives. I never unserstand what we are waiting for??

ENGINES: I don't see Bullet Trains becoming a reality in India so easily. But what we can do is change the design of our train engines. Why don't we have aerodynamic train engines thus making them cut into the air easily and improving upon the safety.

Signages indicating unmanned level crossing should become very prominent and frequent from a distance of two kilometres. If possible train timings of the day should come up from a distance of half-a-kilometre.

Punishments and Reward system for those on duty at unmanned crossings may prevent the accidents.

We can do the following to Prevent Accidents at Low Cost :
1)Erect Signboard with Warning
2)Mention the No of Accidents happened year -wise due to this negligence in india and in that particular state for last 5 yrs.
3)The language must be easy to be understood to passerby and not only in English.
4)Create continuous awareness program .

In kerala 100 LC gates are there in 100km stretch(Ernakulam-Alleppey-Kayankulam).Operationally each LC is like a station on manning and interlocking.If state representing people wanted to run trains at high speed,options left are 1.Disciplining the people by closing the LCs 2.Have an elevated rail corridor.
As far as unmanned gates and their closing is concerned,state govts are not serious of disciplining the people.Afterall states think Rly is central Govt and thus they dont pursue matter.

Dear railway department ,
In india there is about more than 15000 unmanned level crossing which deaths are also uncountable......to stop this bridges an be constructed with help of respective state govt local authority.......2) It also can be done under the scheme NAMAKKU NAAMAE ( FOR US ) can get money form public and use it 3)by least construct mini ROB and RUB or by BOT basis......

on a large basis, ROB and RUB should be build even at crossings with less traffic but which have supportive terrain to build passes and remove the crossing.

Still many many rail crossings are unmanned. Even if men are employed, there's no guarantee that he will operate the gates and prevent the adventurous from crossing the line at the risk of their life. People can't wait for the trains to go because they are indisciplined. Better result at lesser cost can be achieved if this job is outsourced to the best agencies.
