Guwahati, the largest city in the entire North East India is the major political, economic and educational nerve center. The city’s strategic location, connectivity and the economic opportunities have accelerated the process of urbanization to make it one of the fastest growing Indian city and has earned it the distinction of being called the “Gateway to the North Eastern Region of the Country”.

Picturesquely located with the mighty Brahmaputra in the North and Hills and Plateau of Meghalaya in the South, the City is a melting pot of culture, ethnicity with a cosmopolitan colour and at the same time retaining a strong backdrop of the indigenous Assamese identity. The universal cross lateral problems connected with urbanization has however surfaced over the years as a result of the exponential growth of the City.

It is in this backdrop that Guwahati, one of the fastest growing Indian City has been selected as one of the 98 Smart Cities across the Country and is now competing in the second stage challenge to earn the distinction of being selected as one of the city to launch the dream Smart City Mission. The Government of Assam and the Guwahati Municipal Corporation requests the participation of the Citizens of the City, the State and the entire North East India to win this race in making Guwahati one of the best City in the Country by evolving a Vision, a citizen centric Smart City Proposal to qualify in the second stage challenge. Citizens are requested to participate in this race to make Guwahati Smart City one of the best city to live by giving their views, suggestions, innovative smart solutions towards creation and development of smart civic infrastructures, creation of safe, sustainable amenities and easing the current deficiencies and inconveniences faced by the residents and citizens. Citizens are requested to participate in the mygov.in platform and send suggestions at the following addresses on or before 30th November, 2015:

Being a citizen of Assam and being a Assamese I always witnessed the issues, challenges of the North-east specially Guwahati city.Being Known as most underdeveloped part of India government are only pumping the money to the North-eastern political leaders without examining the real scenario and issues of the area and people living the habitat.I think pumping lots of money is not going to give the real solution of the challenges of the NE.Smart City Mission of the good initiative of the Govt.

Technically qualified people should be recruited immediately to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation Graduate Engineers are in very much shortage .Though as per building bye laws Minimum qualification of Registered Technical Professional is Graduate in Engineering but due to shortage of graduate engineers the building plan is verified by Under Graduate person. So any project implemented by under qualified people can not bring actual result. So First make the GMC a technically qualified organization

Implementation of the Smart City proposal should be entrusted to a capable, non-corrupt, result oriented and dedicated team of people in case Guwahati is selected as one of the proposed twenty smart cities of India in the first phase. It should not be like the Greater Guwahati water supply schemes, which is lying unimplemented for decades in spite of the facts that Brahmaputra is at a stone's throw and a number of international financial institutions have extended loans for the projects.
