The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

Before the Event Register volunteers as "Green Sevaks" to guide devotees. Spread awareness through posters, WhatsApp messages, and announcements about bringing reusable water bottles and cloth bags. Coordinate with local vendors to avoid single-use plastic. Waste-Free Prasad & Food Serve prasad in leaf bowls (dona/pattal) or reusable steel utensils. Encourage devotees to bring their own plates and glasses. Set up a utensil washing station instead of disposable items. Waste Segregation Install clearly labelled bins: Wet Waste Dry Recyclables Non-recyclables Place volunteers near bins to help people segregate waste correctly. Eco-Friendly Decorations Decorate with flowers, leaves, bamboo, and cloth banners. Avoid thermocol, plastic flowers, and PVC flex banners. Reuse decorations for future events wherever possible. Temple Offerings Collect flowers and leaves separately for composting. Convert used flowers into organic compost or incense products.

Kapde/jute ke bags local Women SHGs dwara beche jayein jisse unhe rozgar mile, Or Gaushala aur Biogas Model: Mele ka bacha hua kachra (pattal, bacha khana) direct local Gaushalas ko diya jaye. Isse "Govardhan Yojana" ke tahat Biogas aur organic khaad banegi. 2. Phoolon ka Upyog: Chadhe hue phool aur bel-patra ke liye alag "Green Bins" hon. Inka mela site par hi compost (khaad) banaya jaye ya agarbatti banane mein use ho. 3. Digital App & Premium Darshan: Prasad aur Darshan booking ke liye ek official App bane. App par ₹20-₹50 'Green Fee' ke sath Premium Darshan Pass beche jayein. 4. Aam shraddhaluon ke liye prashasan ki taraf se 'Shiv Rasoi' ya 'Sarkari Eco-Bhojnalaya' lagaye jayein. सावन माह में मंदिरों और धार्मिक स्थलों पर बड़ी संख्या में श्रद्धालु फूल, बेलपत्र और पूजा सामग्री अर्पित करते हैं। वर्तमान में कई फूल विक्रेता फूलों को प्लास्टिक की थैलियों में पैक करके देते हैं। फूल विक्रेताओं को जागरूक और प्रशिक्षित करना आवश्यक है। उन्हें प्लास्टिक बैग की जगह पुराने समय की तरह कागज की थैली, कपड़े के थैले, पत्तों के दोने या अन्य पर्यावरण-अनुकूल पैकेजिंग अपनाने के लिए प्रेरित किया जाना चाहिए। मंदिर समितियों द्वारा "प्लास्टिक मुक्त फूल विक्रेता" अभियान चलाकर ऐसे दुकानदारों को सम्मानित किया जा सकता है। श्रद्धालुओं को भी जागरूक किया जाए कि फूलों को प्लास्टिक सहित भगवान को अर्पित न करें और खाली थैलियों को निर्धारित स्थान पर ही डालें। मंदिर परिसर में कपड़े के थैले और पुन: उपयोग योग्य बैग उपलब्ध कराए जा सकते हैं। "फूल चढ़ाएं श्रद्धा से, प्लास्टिक हटाएं जिम्मेदारी से" "हर सावन हो स्वच्छ सावन, प्लास्टिक मुक्त बने हर आंगन"

100% प्लास्टिक प्रतिबंध और 'बर्तन बैंक' की स्थापना बर्तन बैंक (Utensil Bank): भंडारे और स्टॉल पर डिस्पोजेबल या प्लास्टिक की कटोरी/थाली के बजाय स्टील के बर्तनों का उपयोग अनिवार्य किया जाए। जिला प्रशासन की मदद से एक 'बर्तन बैंक' बनाया जाए, जहाँ से दुकानदार और आयोजक बर्तन किराए पर ले सकें। प्लास्टिक-फ्री जोन वॉच: मेले के सभी प्रवेश द्वारों पर "चेकपॉइंट" बनाए जाएँ, जहाँ पॉलिथीन/प्लास्टिक की बोतलें जमा कराकर श्रद्धालुओं को कपड़े के झोले या स्टील के बोतल रीफिल पॉइंट की सुविधा मिले। 2. 'शिव-प्रसाद चक्र' (100% वेस्ट सर्कुलैरिटी) पुष्प और बेलपत्र रीसायकलिंग: चढ़ावे में आने वाले फूलों और पत्तियों को एकत्र करने के लिए हर 50 मीटर पर 'शिव-पात्र' (ग्रीन बिन्स) रखे जाएँ। बायो-प्रोसेसिंग यूनिट: मेले के पास ही एक अस्थाई प्रसंस्करण केंद्र बनाकर इन फूलों से 'महादेव ऑर्गेनिक धूप/अगरबत्ती' बनाई जाए, जिसे बाद में श्रद्धालुओं को ही बेचा जा सकता है। 3. 'वेस्ट-टू-वैल्यू' (Waste-to-Value) रिवॉर्ड सिस्टम स्वच्छता बारकोड/ऐप: श्रद्धालुओं के लिए एक "कचरा लाओ, पुण्य/इनाम पाओ" योजना चलाई जाए।

Today, I would like to share my thoughts on making Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple Mahashivratri a Zero Waste Mahotsav. Mahashivratri is not only a festival of devotion but also a celebration of harmony between humanity and nature. Lord Shiva is often associated with rivers, forests, mountains, and wildlife. Therefore, keeping our temple and surroundings clean is one of the greatest forms of worship. To make this festival a Zero Waste Mahotsav, we should take a few simple but effective steps. We should completely avoid single-use plastic and encourage the use of cloth bags, leaf plates, earthen cups, and reusable water bottles. Separate dustbins for wet and dry waste should be placed throughout the temple premises. Flowers, leaves, and other organic offerings should be collected separately and converted into compost or natural incense sticks instead of being thrown away.

"Mahashivratri is a festival of faith, and it should also inspire us to protect nature. The temple premises should be kept plastic-free by using cloth or paper bags instead of plastic. My idea combines devotion, sustainability and technology through a "Green Seva Points" model. By encouraging pilgrims to adopt eco-friendly practices using QR-based rewards, waste segregation, reusable materials, youth volunteers and AI-based monitoring, the Mahashivratri Mela can become a practical Zero Waste Mahotsav. This model is simple, scalable and can be replicated at religious events across India under the vision of "Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi".

'शिव-गण' युवा स्वयंसेवक मॉडल (युवा और समुदाय सहभागिता) बागपत के स्थानीय कॉलेजों, NCC और NSS के युवाओं एवं समाजसेवी संस्था के लोगों को "शिव-गण इको-वॉरियर्स" के रूप में तैनात किया जाए, छोटे छोटे zone banye जाये, जिस क्षेत्र में सबसे कम कचरा मिलेगा या उस ज़ोन के युवाओं को जिलाधिकारी द्वारा डिजिटल 'ग्रीन बैज' aur कुछ राशि और प्रमाण पत्र देकर सम्मानित किया जाए. हौसला बढ़ाने का slogan.. "कचरा नहीं, यह देव-द्रव्य है — स्वच्छता ही परम भक्ति है।" प्रवेश द्वारों पर 4 'स्वच्छ सेवा काउंटर' बनाना; CCTV AI ट्रैकिंग सेट करना; 200 'शिव-गण' स्वयंसेवकों को प्रशिक्षित करना। फूल और पत्तियाँ (निर्माल्या) इन्हें ऑन-साइट कॉम्पैक्टर और क्रशर में पीसकर प्राकृतिक सुगंधित द्रव्यों के साथ मिलाकर 'शिव धूप' और 'अग्निशिखा अगरबत्ती' बनाई जाएगी। जिससे राजस्व भी इकठ्ठा होगा धूप बनाने वाली कंपनियों को टेन्डर दिया जाये, धन्यवाद 🙏
