The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India, in collaboration with MyGov, invites citizens to participate in the BIS@80 Commemorative Logo Design Competition as part of the celebrations marking its 80th Foundation Day on 6 January 2027.

The competition seeks creative and distinctive logo designs that visually capture the essence of BIS@80. Submissions should symbolically reflect BIS’s eight-decade journey of promoting quality, standards, safety, reliability, and consumer confidence, while highlighting its role in laying the bedrock for a Viksit Bharat through strong quality infrastructure.

Designers are encouraged to translate BIS’s core mission into a compelling visual identity - representing how standardization, testing, conformity assessment, and consumer awareness empower citizens, enable informed choices, and make quality an integral part of everyday life.

Technical Parameters

Participants must submit a BIS@80 Logo Design along with a brief concept note in English or Hindi, not exceeding 200 words, explaining the design and its symbolism.
The existing BIS logo must be incorporated as an integral part of the proposed BIS@80 Logo.
The entry must be submitted in high-resolution JPEG/PNG format, with a minimum resolution of 300 DPI.
The maximum file size shall be 4 MB.
The design should be simple, creative, distinctive, meaningful and easily recognisable, and should be suitable for use across digital, print, social media, official documents, banners, publicity material and merchandise.
The logo should be scalable and effective in both colour and monochrome formats, without losing its visual identity or clarity.
The submitted design must not contain any watermark, signature, name, initials, photograph or other personal identification.

Gratification

First Prize: ₹1,00,000/- (Rupees One Lakh only)
Second Prize: ₹75,000/- (Rupees Seventy-Five Thousand only)
Third Prize: ₹50,000/- (Rupees Fifty Thousand only)

The BIS@80 logo identity expresses the number 80 through a series of continuous concentric lines, creating a simple yet distinctive visual language. The multiple lines represent the eight decades of BIS’s journey—each layer reflecting the standards, systems and foundations built over time to strengthen quality, safety and reliability across India. Together, they form a unified 80, showing how every decade builds upon the one before it. The continuity of the lines also represents the ongoing nature of standardisation. As India evolves, the pursuit of quality continues to move forward, carrying the foundation built over 80 years into the future and contributing to the vision of a Viksit Bharat. Eight decades of standards. One continuous journey towards a better India.

Since the original BIS logo is an established and recognizable symbol, I did not want to create an entirely different logo that could lose its identity. Instead, I made creative modifications to the existing BIS identity to give it a special 80th-anniversary appearance. The design highlights “80 Years of Trust,” representing eight decades of confidence that Indians have placed in BIS. The Indian tricolour and Ashoka Chakra reflect our national identity, while the circular elements represent continuity, unity, and the lasting relationship between BIS and the people of India. The design celebrates BIS’s 80-year journey while preserving its familiarity, identity, and trust.
