My mascot "Antara" is a cheerful leaf-cutter ant wearing a construction helmet and reflective safety jacket, holding a large green leaf that says “HELLO NHAI!”. I wanted to create a character that feels friendly and familiar while representing the people and spirit behind India’s highways.
The leaf-cutter ant is a remarkable creature, an intelligent engineer and a tireless worker in one. Ants design and build complex underground homes, organise themselves efficiently, and work tirelessly as a team. They also carry leaves along organised trails, creating a natural connection with roads and routes. These qualities represent the planning, engineering skill, dedication and hard work that go into building and maintaining highways.
The ant also represents the countless workers who put in their effort every day so that millions of people can travel safely. The helmet and reflective jacket symbolise construction and safety, while the green leaf represents nature and the responsibility to protect our environment.
The cheerful “HELLO NHAI!” makes the mascot welcoming and approachable. It is meant to feel like a little friend that people can recognise, enjoy and associate with their journeys.
Overall, the mascot celebrates intelligence, hard work, teamwork and connectivity, while reminding us that behind every road is the effort of people working together to keep India moving.

My name is Tejas Uday Banavali my mascot name is Milu, a friendly mascot inspired by the familiar Indian highway milestone. As a symbol of direction, distance, progress, and destinations, the milestone becomes an approachable companion for India’s highway travellers. Milu’s rounded anatomy, expressive eyes and eyebrows, oversized hands, short legs, and cheerful smile create a warm and memorable personality. His vibrant colours make him energetic and noticeable across media and age groups. The “INDIA ∞ KM” identity represents India’s limitless journey, continuous movement, connectivity, and possibilities. The tagline “Connecting India, Mile by Mile” reflects milestones, progress, destinations, and NHAI’s vision of a safe, efficient, well-connected highway network.

Milestone is a mascot built entirely from the language of the Indian highway. Every part of its body represents something a traveler encounters on a National Highway brought together into one confident character that embodies NHAI's own words: Not Just Roads, Building A Nation. Head – The Highway Milestone: shaped like India's yellow and white distance marker, reading 0 KM the starting point of every journey NHAI builds. Crown – The Direction Board: a green signboard pointing left and right symbolizing guidance and NHAI's role in connecting every region. Body – The Highway: the torso is a road with a yellow dashed lane line the backbone of the character just as highways are the backbone of India's economy. Legs – The Toll System: striped toll barrier posts with a glowing FASTag chip on the chest representing seamless modern highway systems. Arms – The Bridges: curved like bridge arches, one hand holding a rural village, the other an urban skyline showing NHAI bridging village and city.

The blue scarf represents trust, responsibility and a sense of service.
