MILAN (मिलन)
“Connecting India, bringing us together.”
Milan, meaning coming together, represents the spirit of a connected and united India. Inspired by the peacock, India’s national bird, Milan reflects the country’s rich diversity, vibrant identity and collective pride.
The peacock’s colourful feathers symbolise the many cultures, regions and communities of India, while the NHAI safety vest represents the highways that bring these diverse parts of the nation closer together.
Milan’s energetic and welcoming personality conveys connection, positivity and progress. He represents how every highway is more than a road-it is a link between people, places, opportunities and aspirations.
Through Milan, NHAI’s vision of a safer, stronger and better-connected India becomes approachable and memorable for citizens of all ages.
Milan is the spirit of India coming together-one road, many journeys, one connected nation.

*1. The Helmet with Flyover:* His orange safety helmet is crowned with a modern flyover interchange, symbolizing innovation in infrastructure, protection and NHAI's engineering excellence.
*2. Infinity Road Base:* He stands on a road shaped as an infinity symbol (∞), representing seamless, endless connectivity that binds the nation together.
*3. Trust & Safety:* The high-visibility orange jacket with reflective strips and the Ashoka Chakra badge on his chest denote trust, safety and national responsibility. His friendly smile makes NHAI approachable to every citizen.
*4. Sustainability:* The small green sapling in his hand signifies NHAI's commitment to sustainable, green highways and eco-friendly development.
*5. Adaptability:* The design uses clean vector lines with NHAI's signature orange, steel grey and India blue. It works perfectly in full colour, single colour, as a small app icon or a large banner, as a 3D toy or an animated character for road safety campaigns.

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is an important organisation responsible for the development, maintenance and management of National Highways in India. It plays a major role in improving road connectivity and supporting the country’s economic growth.
NHAI develops modern highways, bridges, expressways and other road infrastructure to make travel faster and safer. Good highways connect cities, villages, industries and important economic centres. They also help farmers and businesses transport goods efficiently across the country.
Road safety is one of the important goals of highway development. NHAI works towards better road design, signs, safety measures and modern technologies to make journeys safer for everyone. It is also promoting greener and more sustainable highway infrastructure.
Modern projects such as green highways, FASTag, electronic toll collection and smart transportation systems show how technology is transforming India’s road network. Better highways also contribute to employment, tourism, trade and overall development.
NHAI is therefore an important part of India's journey towards Viksit Bharat. Strong roads create stronger connections, and stronger connections create new opportunities for people and businesses.
“Better Highways, Better Connectivity, Better India.” 🇮🇳🛣️

Concept Note
I wanted to create a mascot that represents NHAI’s vision of safe, seamless and sustainable connectivity across India.
I combined the qualities of a dog with the form and purpose of a highway vehicle. I chose a dog because it represents companionship, loyalty, protection and reliability. I wanted the mascot to feel like a trusted companion throughout every journey. Its wheel-based feet represent continuous movement, smooth mobility and the flow of people and opportunities across the country.
I incorporated road markings into its body to connect the mascot with India’s expanding highway network and modern infrastructure. The leaf-shaped rotor on its head represents the harmony between technology and nature, symbolising sustainable development, green innovation and a forward-looking approach to infrastructure.
I gave the mascot a cheerful expression to make it friendly, approachable and memorable for people of all ages. I also kept its form clean and adaptable for use across digital platforms, print media, awareness campaigns, official communication and merchandise.
Through this mascot, I wanted to portray NHAI as a trusted companion on every journey—connecting people, protecting lives and helping build a greener, smarter and better-connected India.
