The Income Tax Department invites constructive suggestions from citizens, taxpayers, professionals, businesses, and other stakeholders to strengthen its Citizen Charter and make it more transparent, citizen-centric, accessible, and responsive to the evolving needs of taxpayers.

The Citizen Charter reflects the Department's commitment towards delivering quality taxpayer services by defining service standards, timelines, taxpayer rights, and responsibilities. As part of its continuous efforts to improve taxpayer experience in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, the Department seeks practical suggestions and innovative ideas to further enhance the Citizen Charter.

Suggestions may be submitted on, but are not limited to, the following areas:

      • Improving taxpayer services and service standards.
      • Simplifying taxpayer interactions with the Income Tax Department.
      • Enhancing transparency, accountability, and service delivery.
      • Strengthening grievance redressal mechanisms.
      • Improving accessibility for senior citizens, women, persons with disabilities, and first-time taxpayers.
      • Promoting digital service delivery and ease of compliance.
      • Making the Citizen Charter easier to understand through simplified language and better communication.
      • Any other suggestions that can make the Income Tax Department more citizen-friendly, efficient, and responsive.

Your valuable suggestions will contribute towards strengthening taxpayer services, promoting trust, and building a transparent, efficient, and citizen-centric tax administration.

As a dutiful, law-abiding tax-paying citizen, I strongly object to the recurring disruption of public life by unwanted miscreants and agitators. Millions of honest citizens contribute our hard-earned money to build national infrastructure and support government functioning. It is deeply frustrating to see taxpayer-funded public assets damaged and daily commerce paralyzed. While the right to peaceful protest exists, today's youth must realize that Expressing grievances should never involve hampering functioning of government machinery built on the honest contributions of taxpayers. Furthermore, impressionable youth are frequently exploited by opportunistic political opposition and anti-national elements to subvert elected governance and create anarchy. I urge the authorities to strictly enforce laws, instill confidence and protect the rights of law-abiding taxpayers.

To make the tax system more equitable, encouraging, and taxpayer-friendly, I respectfully submit the following proposals for your kind consideration: 1. Smooth Tapering of Section 87A Rebate: Reconfigure the tax slabs so that for incomes exceeding ₹12.75 Lakh, tax is applied only on the incremental amount above ₹12.75 Lakh. Alternatively, extend a tapered rebate u/s 87A up to ₹20–25 Lakh so that a salary increment never leads to a tax burden greater than the raise itself. 2. Option for Part-Payment in Interest-Free Installments: Introduce a provision allowing salaried individual taxpayers to pay self-assessment tax dues in 3 to 6 monthly equal installments without levying penal interest (under Sections 234A/B/C). A structured, interest-free payment plan would give honest taxpayers much-needed liquidity relief while ensuring steady revenue collection for the Government.

To make the Citizen Charter more taxpayer-centric and effective, the Income Tax Department should introduce an AI-driven, real-time tracking dashboard for all queries, refunds, and grievances, paired with strict time-bound service guarantees that offer automatic updates and escalation paths if deadlines are missed. Furthermore, implementing multilingual support across digital portals, launching dedicated helpdesks for first-time taxpayers and senior citizens, and publishing clear, simplified visual guides on compliance obligations will significantly reduce information asymmetry, lower compliance costs, and build greater mutual trust between citizens and the tax administration.

d Senior Citizen Booths: Partner with local post offices or banks to set up physical, assisted e-filing kiosks for digitally hesitant seniors. * Accessible Web Standards: Ensure the e-filing portal fully complies with international accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2.1) for visually impaired citizens. ## Promoting Digital Service Delivery and Ease of Compliance * Mobile-First Ecosystem: Develop a robust, secure mobile app capable of completing 100% of filing, payment, and response actions. * Push Notification Alerts: Send SMS or WhatsApp alerts for approaching deadlines, refund approvals, or outstanding actions instead of relying only on emails. * Unified Payment Gateway: Integrate all major digital wallets, UPI, and net-banking options into a one-click tax payment interface.
