The Income Tax Department invites constructive suggestions from citizens, taxpayers, professionals, businesses, and other stakeholders to strengthen its Citizen Charter and make it more transparent, citizen-centric, accessible, and responsive to the evolving needs of taxpayers.

The Citizen Charter reflects the Department's commitment towards delivering quality taxpayer services by defining service standards, timelines, taxpayer rights, and responsibilities. As part of its continuous efforts to improve taxpayer experience in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, the Department seeks practical suggestions and innovative ideas to further enhance the Citizen Charter.

Suggestions may be submitted on, but are not limited to, the following areas:

      • Improving taxpayer services and service standards.
      • Simplifying taxpayer interactions with the Income Tax Department.
      • Enhancing transparency, accountability, and service delivery.
      • Strengthening grievance redressal mechanisms.
      • Improving accessibility for senior citizens, women, persons with disabilities, and first-time taxpayers.
      • Promoting digital service delivery and ease of compliance.
      • Making the Citizen Charter easier to understand through simplified language and better communication.
      • Any other suggestions that can make the Income Tax Department more citizen-friendly, efficient, and responsive.

Your valuable suggestions will contribute towards strengthening taxpayer services, promoting trust, and building a transparent, efficient, and citizen-centric tax administration.

      ## Strengthening Grievance Redressal Mechanisms * Independent Ombudsperson: Create a neutral, third-party mediation cell for unresolved disputes to avoid internal departmental bias. * Escalation Matrix: Provide an automatic upward escalation feature if a grievance is not resolved within the promised SLA window. * Video-Call Hearings: Allow taxpayers to opt for short virtual grievance hearings directly through the portal instead of writing long, iterative letters.

      ## Enhancing Transparency, Accountability, and Service Delivery * Real-time Refund Tracking: Provide a visual, pizza-tracker style timeline showing the exact stage of refund processing and estimated payout date. * Officer Accountability Logs: Log and display the name of the assigned processing officer or team for open cases to prevent unnecessary delays. * Clear Notice Annotations: Require every department notice to include a 3-bullet summary explaining why it was sent and what exact action is needed.

      ## Improving Taxpayer Services and Service Standards * Implement AI Chatbots: Deploy 24/7 conversational AI assistants on the portal to resolve basic filing and refund queries instantly. * Establish Tiered SLAs: Set strict, public-facing timelines for complex resolutions (e.g., resolving regular assessment rectifications within 15 days). * Omnichannel Support: Unify helpline numbers, emails, and portal tickets into a single dashboard so support agents see past interactions instantly.

Respected Sir/Madam,I am writing to submit a policy suggestion regarding the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY). These schemes have been highly successful in providing social security to millions of citizens across the nation. The current sum assured of ₹2 lakh was set at the launch of these schemes. Due to inflation and the rising cost of living, this amount is no longer sufficient to secure a family's financial future in the event of a tragedy. Therefore, I request the Ministry and DFS to consider the following enhancements:Tiered Subscription Option: Allow willing subscribers the choice to opt for a higher sum assured of ₹10 Lakh by paying a proportionately higher premium.Universal Increase: Alternatively, universally increase the base cover of PMJJBY and PMSBY to ₹10 Lakh to match current economic realities.Such a step will significantly strengthen the financial safety net for lower and middle-income families across India.

Hello Team, I wanted to share a thought that may differ from others. Every year, I pay a significant amount in income tax as a corporate employee, yet when I visit my hometown in Jharkhand, I see little improvement in basic infrastructure or public services. It makes me wonder how effectively our tax money is being utilized. What if taxpayers could allocate a portion of their income tax to approved local development projects? A transparent committee could oversee initiatives like building roads, cleaning rivers and public spaces, improving sanitation, and other essential infrastructure. The allocated amount could be adjusted against the income tax we already pay. This could increase transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in local development. If you think this is a worthwhile idea, I'd love to hear your thoughts. If you agree, please give it a like!

Suggestions for Strengthening the Income Tax Department's Citizen Charter Use simpler language: Rewrite the Citizen Charter in plain English and regional languages so that first-time taxpayers can easily understand their rights, responsibilities, and procedures. Single-window taxpayer support: Create a unified helpdesk (phone, chat, email, and AI assistant) where taxpayers can get accurate guidance without being redirected multiple times. Real-time application tracking: Provide a tracking system for refunds, grievances, rectification requests, and other applications with estimated completion timelines and regular status updates. Strengthen grievance redressal: Introduce automatic escalation if a grievance is not resolved within the prescribed timeline, along with clear reasons for any delay. Improve accessibility: Offer dedicated support for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and first-time taxpayers through simplified interfaces, priority assistance, and multilingual

Respected Sir, pranam.HR is a great asset for any organisation. To increase their ethical index is very important for benefit of Department, public and their families.During meetings, workshops, trainings, orientation courses etc, there must be a discussion on this by spiritual talks.Discourses of Jain Saints, Brahmakumaris may be considered on regular basis,it will have positive impact.
